4.0 out of 5 stars a piece of Druid history, October 27, 2005
This review is from: Druids: Their Origins and History (Hardcover)
This book is often referenced (both positively and negatively) by a number of modern Druid histories. Published in 1949, it must be read like Frazer's work, i.e., a product of the time. However, keeping this in mind, I think the reader is amply rewarded with discussions of numerous theories which came before Spence, which we might have heard of been been unable to read for ourselves. Lewis Spence might be highly regarded by some, and yet lambasted by others, he is nevertheless influential in the formation of modern Druidry as we know it today.
