5.0 out of 5 stars intricately woven, spiritually driven, February 28, 2001

This review is from: Drum Circle (Audio CD)
If this cd could be compared with anything, it would be Mickey Hart's "Planet Drum." However, this is an ensemble, maintaining basically the same instrumentation throughout (unlike Hart's journey through many instruments and styles). Each 'song' is very well orchestrated, so to speak: each instrument has its part to play. The sound is dynamic and full: 3 didgeridoos, djembe, dumbek, flute, shakers, klaves, various low register drums to provide the foundation, and beautiful voice to close out a few tracks...these people have obviously done their homework. Definately one of the best albums in this hard-to-find genre. I wish they'd put out more!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gateway to the spirit world, February 13, 2001
By A Customer

I was looking for some drum music for meditation, and found this incredible CD. The aboriginal undertones and the complex drum syncopation merge to offer the listener an exquisite transcendental journey. One of the best CDs of 2000.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music for Zils and Clapping, July 6, 2009
This review is from: Drum Circle (Audio CD)
I do zils (finger cymbals) with belly dancing and traditional dance rhythms. I have had Drum Circle by X-Tribe on my shelf for years and it has always been a favorite. Last week after taking a zil workshop and dances of the West Sahara with the renowned dancer and choreographer Helene Eriksen (go to www.Helene-Eriksen.de for more info) I realized Drum Circle would be a nice practice CD until I could order CD's from her workshop. Was I ever right!

I have a newfound appreciation for this CD now that I can play my zils and or do clapping rhythms along with the drums. If I close my eyes I can even forget I am dancing and zilling in my room in the middle of Burien, Washington. With the pounding of the drum tempo I am drawn into the music as if I am being pulled straight into the jungle in the dead of night, with only the flicker of the fire to guide my way, and the shimmer of light that is reflecting off the other drummer and dancers eyes. This is a "must have" for any dancer or drummers library! Makes a perfect gift too! Sameerah
