2.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous music, dismal sound quality, October 29, 2003

Gene Krupa's music is a marvel, but unfortunately, the sound quality on this disc is horrifying. Throughout every song, there is an audible, annoying hiss in the background. My old collection of 33 RPM disc's produces fresher sounds than this pathetic excuse of remastering. It's obvious they merely transfered the original mono recordings from vinyl to CD with no remastering or technical wizardry. It's a crying shame because Krupa's band is an underrated orchestra. Do yourself a favor and sample Krupa's music, but not from this poorly produced, shoddy CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Band Swing Era FAN, November 17, 2002

Jim Taylor (Hazel Green, AL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drum Crazy (Audio CD)
If you like Swinging, Big Band music you'll love this CD. The Gene Krupa Orchestra, The Benny Goodman Orchestra, The Gene Krupa Trio... All on one album. From the opening song, Apurksody (Krupa spelled backwards... a slow swing tune); to Drummin' Man (the song that got me interested in Gene Krupa); to the Original Live, Swinging, Exciting performance of Sing, Sing, Sing (featuring Harry James, Benny Goodman, Jess Stacy, and the BG Orchestra, all being Drivin', Swingingly by the Swinging Rhythm of Gene Krupa); through to Wire Brush Stomp (The Trio showcasing the superb expertise of Gene's intricate drumming with Wire Brushes). The recording quality is good, and the persentation is really good... I only have two wishes, more text, and more Gene Krupa CD's like this.
If you are a Big Band Swing Jazz FAN you must get this CD.
