2.0 out of 5 stars DRUMMER BOY?, March 12, 2003

This review is from: The Drummer Boy (An Avon Camelot Book) (Paperback)
The Drummer Boy by Larry Weinberg was a good book, but that is all it was. It wasn't great or anything just good. This is the kind of book that you read because you have to read a book for school. This book was only about 185 pages it took me about 2 and half hours to read. I admit that it was a waste of time but hey I got my assignment done. This book was writing quiet well until I got to the end the author just stop giving me details he became broad and boring. The main character Caleb was quite detailed but his brother was not well detailed. Although Caleb spent the whole book searching for his lost brother (pg 170 paragraph 1 the eyes that use to flash were dull and nearly dead). I'm also not too sure how historically correct the book was this is because he didn't detail the battles and he didn't really use too many historical figure. I would only recommend reading this book, the only people I would recommend this book to civil war junkies and to people who need to read a book quickly. The theme of this book was never to give up and you might just get what you're looking for. Although not a too clear theme it seems to be the theme. I Jonathan Cook rate this book a 2.5 out of 10. I have one last thing to say if any of you civil war junkies decide to read this book please tell me how historically correct this book is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable book, October 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Drummer Boy (An Avon Camelot Book) (Paperback)
This is a remarkable book that manages to cover a large part of the Civil War, from the waters off the coast of Maine, to Gettysburg, and into Andersonville prison itself, as a young boy, refusing to believe that his brother is a coward, sets off in search of him. The story is beautifully told, and is obviously a labor of love. This should have become an immediate classic, but instead it's out of print. I read this with my 9 and 12 year olds. We couldn't put it down. Everyday, after school, my kids would get home, grab the book, hand it to me, and command "Read". I happily complied.
