Book Description

October 4, 2006

A Christmas tale with a modern twist.

We all love singing the Christmas carol "The Little Drummer Boy." Our hearts swell as the poor boy offers his best, meager gift to the Baby in the manger, and we smile in joy as the infant Lord graciously smiles His thanks. Now Ted Dekker brings a modern twist to this beloved song of hope, acceptance, and joy. This modern fable takes place in a large city where Christmas has been banned and replaced by a holiday that celebrates prosperity. All Christmas songs are also banned.

Hi Amy, thanks for your question. I've passed it along to my publisher. Right now, all publishers are experimenting with ebook pricing and promotions. It's still very new so everyone is learning together. This kind of feedback is exactly what they need to decide how often to do specials and for how long. You'll start seeing more of my books being offered as ebook specials. I promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a MUST READ!!, January 18, 2007
This review is from: The Drummer Boy: A Christmas Tale (Hardcover)
Ted Dekker has taken a timeless story, and brought it up to the possible 21st Century. Set in a world that views the Christmas story as nothing more than a dangerous myth, one small child dares to make a stand. It was an inspirational read, and you will love it. Great for Christmas or any other time of year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read-Aloud Book For Families, December 25, 2009
By
This review is from: The Drummer Boy: A Christmas Tale (Hardcover)
I read this aloud to my two nephews, ages 11 and 13, over several days leading up to Christmas, and they loved it. They liked the fact that it happens in the future (even though it's not a "high-tech" future, as they had first hoped), and they identified with the main character (a 10-year-old boy). It also got them thinking about the real meaning of Christmas, whether or not that's important to them, and whether they'd take a stand to defend it. One of them told me that he never really liked the song "The Little Drummer Boy," but after hearing this story, different images came to mind, and he was starting to like the song. (The occasional illustrations in the book are wonderful.) Finding books that they think are "cool" at this age can be a challenge, so I was so glad it went over well. I'd highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope in a Bleak Future, June 10, 2008
This review is from: The Drummer Boy: A Christmas Tale (Hardcover)
Although this is a children's book that will take most adults only minutes to read, THE DRUMMER BOY has a lot to offer.

As the title suggests (and the smaller print states), this is a Christmas tale. It takes place in a not-too-distant future America, where Christmas has been outlawed and replaced by the Holiday. Daniel, a young boy who has never heard of Christmas, finds an old drum with a poem and a story inside. What follows will touch the hearts of Christian readers and gently prod our consciences, reminding us that each one of us has a part to play and the only qualification is willingness.

This book is an excellent choice for Christmas morning reading, when the family is gathered together around the fireplace and you want that one small reminder about the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
