4.0 out of 5 stars Sucra Poppa!
Anyone who is familiar with the comedy style of Bruce McCulloch
knows that he has a very unique and somewhat dark sence of humor. Rather than making jokes about the obvious, Bruce tends to concentrate on the little things that go on in every day life.
You know, things like talking to your mother on the speaker phone
while making love. Bruce's first album...

1.0 out of 5 stars This stupid disc costs too much!!
The cd costs too damn much! I'm not going to buy it until the price comes down. You've got to be out of your minds if you hope that I pay 30 bucks for this cd. It ain't gonna happen.

Bruce's first album (Shame Based Man)is truly
one of my favorite comedy albums of all time. I litterally had to listen to it about 20 times to catch all of the jokes hidden within the seemingly endless rambling and singing of silly songs.

Usually with a comedy album, you listen to it a few times and start to get bored with it. That's where Bruce breaks the mold. He brilliantly uses catchy songs to deliver his comedy. Rather than simply listening to a comedy album, you find yourself tapping your toes, singing along, and smiling at the same time.
You actually play the songs over and over as if you were listening to one of your favorite music CD's.

Having said that I rated "Drunk Baby Project" a 4 out of 5. I did so only because I felt that his first album "Shame Based Man" was perfect. Some of the funniest bits on "Shame Based Man" were short conversations between a radio talk show host and his callers (both played by Bruce). I was disappointed that "The Drunk Baby Project" contained only one of these skits. Additionally, the jokes were a bit more hidden than on the last album. BUT DON'T LET THIS STOP YOU FROM BUYING IT!!!

This album is very funny and the songs alone are worth the purchase. Bruce actually does some real singing and it is not bad. The style of songs changes with every track and each is catchy in its own way. On one track he sings a tribute to Bob
Seeger. The words to the song aren't 'laugh out loud' funny but it doesn't matter! The song is great! Another song 'Lil Gay Waiter' jumps from rock to country to I don't know what. My favorite track is 'Sucra Poppa'. A funky techno song about a girl and her Sugar Daddy. As on the first album, Bruce takes an uncomfortable stab at religion. You will laugh hard when you hear it, however, you just might skip over it the next time you play the disc.

Summary: This is a funny album. Bruce is a funny guy. I wish he was more visible because I love his sence of humor and would like more of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bruce Forever. Look elsewhere for Pure comedy., June 9, 2010

For years now this is one of my favorite albums. I don't completely know why. That's why I gave it 4 stars and not 5.
True, as many have said, this is not always a laugh out loud listen. This album, to me, is more poetic than funny. My favorite may be Warehouse Prayer. Its not funny at all. Its pretty sad actually. Its about working the night shift.
Never Trust, that's just true.
Are any of these songs just Funny to me? Probably not. Some are really touching. One Cup is more like a love poem than a comedy.
Bruce loves music. Doors fan anyone? haha. That being said, he could have tried harder on the Music part of this CD since its not comedy. But he didn't and I don't mind.

Songs I don't like so much are, Clinique Ladies and Lil' Gay Waiter, but some people love Lil' Gay Waiter.

If you like Bruce and you liked his first album, of course you should get this. You may end up Loving it like I do.
Sucra Poppa is great.
I hope Bruce makes another album soon.

I loved Kids In The Hall and have loved almost all their individual projects after the show ended. Bruce has a wonderfully dark sense of humor that I (and hopefully others) connect with. As good if not better than his first CD, Shame-Based Man.

2.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars?!? Not nearly!, May 30, 2003
This review is from: Drunk Baby Project (Audio CD)
I LOVE Bruce too, but there's no way this album deserves 5 stars. Not even 3 in my opinion. Shame-Based Man gets a 5, but this one is disappointing. I will buy and watch everything Bruce does (even Dog Park, which also ...), but I won't lie and say they're good if they're not. If you don't have Shame-Based Man, GET IT!!!! It's the funniest album ever recorded by man. And I'm not exaggerating!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bruce Strikes Again!, January 1, 2003
This review is from: Drunk Baby Project (Audio CD)
Brucio and his pseudo music stylings are back after a seven-year absence. While not the caliber of "Shame-based Man," DBP is still a great CD. It definitely won't appeal to everyone. This effort is dry, sarcastic, witty comedy at its best. If your looking for SNL style comedic garbage, look else where. Two things prevent me from rating this CD a five stars. 1) The disappointing title track. 2) The sheer fact that I can't rank it as equal or above Shame-based Man.

If you're a KITH fan or a fan of sarcastic comedy buy this CD. Bruce Rules, I highly recommend it.
