No Longer offering MY blood for God's binge drinking ~ I've sobered up!,
By Vyckie D. Garrison "NO LONGER QUIVERING" (Norfolk, NE United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Drunk With Blood: God's killings in the Bible (Paperback)
When my daughter saw the cover of my copy of "Drunk With Blood: God's Killings in the Bible," she asked, "So are you becoming a Satanist now?"Drunk With Blood really is a horrible book ~ and what makes it such a horror is that it enumerates the sheer number of people whom God either killed Himself or else approved of their deaths ~ straight from the Bible! From the back cover: Who has killed more, Satan or God? (Biblical numbers only, no estimates.) Satan 10 God 2,476,633 That's slightly less than 2.5 MILLION people killed by God in the bible, folks. In the introduction, author Steve Wells, explains how he came up with the numbers ~ he only uses the actual #s from the bible. For instance, in the story of Job ~ God gave Satan permission to kill all of Job's children & servants. The bible says he had 10 children. Since he was a wealthy man, Job probably had more servants than children ~ but "Drunk With Blood" doesn't count the servants' deaths. Which means that these numbers that Steve Wells came up with are actually under-representative of the # of people killed by God. Steve explains that he also didn't include FUTURE killings ~ those promised by God in Revelation ~ since they haven't happened yet. The promised End Times killings are ~ Wow ~ a horrendous # of dead people ~ to be killed by Jesus, himself! Rev 14 foretells "one like the Son of Man" swinging his sickle & "reaping" enough dead that their blood fills a huge winepress. Wells calculates that the amount of blood needed to fill this winepress would require the death of 24 TRILLION people ~ killed by JESUS! 'Cuz ~ as we've been told ~ the first time, Jesus came as a Lamb ~ next time, He'll come as a Lion ~ wreaking vengeance upon the enemies of God. Quoting Steve Wells, "there are many other verses that say similar (bats**t crazy) things in the Bible, & they're not all in Revelation ..." Ch 1: The Flood of Noah ~ est. # killed 20 Million ~ Everyone on earth except Noah & family. Ch 2: Abraham's war to rescue Lot ~ est. # killed: 100 Ch 3 Sodom & Gomorrah ~ est. # killed: 2000 So you get the idea ~ "Drunk With Blood: God's Killings in the Bible" quotes verse after verse where God killed the creatures He made in His own image. When I was a Christian, I generally skimmed over those barbaric killings ~ I figured God must've had a reason ~ even if I didn't get it. Or I would say, "Well, that was the old covenant" Jesus came to be the ultimate sacrifice ~ so Christianity is different. Quoting @AlmightGod: To most Christians, the Bible is like a software license. Nobody actually reads it. They just scroll to the bottom and click "I agree." "Drunk With Blood" includes God's killings in the New Testament too: Ananias & Sapphira, Herod Aggripa, and of course, Jesus. "God killed his son in order to stop himself from torturing people forever after they die..." It's impossible to see all God's killings ~ clearly enumerated ~ chapter & verse ~ & not conclude that the bible God is EVIL. So here's the thing ~ for all the talk about God being LOVE & the value of human life ~ the bible God relishes the death of His enemies ... and He also glories in the deaths of his chosen people (martyrs get a crown) and even His own Son! As a former Quiverfull believer, I saw this devaluing of human life ~ esp. for women ~ for mothers who risk their lives producing "arrows for God's army" (See Kathryn Joyce, Quiverfull: Inside the Christian Patriarchy Movement) Mary Pride ~ a Quiverfull leader, says that women who die in childbirth are to be honored as martyrs! Quiverfull moms who die in childbirth are just so much collateral damage in the war for the advancement of God's kingdom. After reading "Drunk With Blood" I am not at all surprised when I think of the callous attitude re: maternal deaths among the "pro-life" and "pro-family" ~ biblical family values camp. I used to identify with Job ~ "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him" was my life verse ~ ugh! I feel betrayed by this "Creator!" I was willing to die for Him ~ yet, the bible God thinks nothing of wholesale slaughter of men, women, children. What was I thinking? Such a monster God is unworthy of my devotion & self-sacrifice. And my oldest daughter ~ she very well could have become another victim of this Killer God ~ as a "Quivering daughter" (see Hillary McFarland, Quivering Daughters), following His ways drove her to attempt suicide. When God says, Love me & serve me or burn forever ~ that's not a choice ~ that's an ultimatum. Thanks, Steve Wells for "Drunk With Blood: God's Killings in the Bible" ~ this book is an awesome contribution to HUMAN SANITY!!

"The bible is the ispired and inerrant word of God." How many people take this statement for fact without ever having actually cracked open their dusty family bible, let alone having read through it? I was one of them for many years. Sure we all have our favorite bible stories that we were told as a child. Noah leading the adorable animals into the ark, Moses parting the Red Sea, or David and Goliath. But how many of us stop to consider the millions of people, including the elderly, babies, and pregnant women killed in the flood? Were all the babies alive in the world at the time so wicked as to deserve being drowned? How about all the millions of innocent animals that were killed? How many innocent first born Egyptian children were murdered so that god could prove a point to a pharoah whose heart he had hardened? How many of us are familiar with the story of Moses commanding his army (after they had already killed all of the Midianite men, captured the women and children, plundered their valuables and animals, and burned their cities down) to slaughter all of the male children and non virgin female prisoners of war? Moses, being very generous, allowed the army to keep the virgins, all 32,000 of them (Numbers 31). How may of us know about King David's genocidal wars detailed throughout the books of Samuel? How many of us approve of god slowly killing an innocent baby to teach the father, the adulterous King David, a lesson? How many parents would tell their children the story of Elisha sending two bears to rip apart 42 children for teasing him (2 Kings 2 23-24) or the story of Jephthah agreeing to the human sacrafice of his own daughter (and god happily accepting) so that god could help him slaughter the Ammonites (Judges 11 34-39)? The fact is, many people are unaware of these stories because they haven't actually read the bible and their ministers shy away from telling them. Steve Wells does an amazing job of bringing to light the uncomfortable and ignored stories in the bible. This book is primarily quotations from the King James Bible interspersed with insightful and humorous (despite the horrific subject matter) annotations. He counts the numbers of god approved and god assisted killings throughout the bible (its millions and millions). In doing so, Wells exposes the bible for what it is: a collection of bloody and violent myths that doesn't deserve the title of inspired or inerrant. Hopefully this book will help people to take a more critical look at a book that millions accept unquestioningly as a moral guide.

Drunk with Blood is both humorously entertaining and historically accurate; well, insofar as the Bible itself is historically accurate. While the pious reader may be offended by Wells's commentary, his inclusion of the relevant biblical verses and their context renders your offense moot.It is worth stating clearly this is not a book of biblical interpretation wherein an angry atheist calls God a jerkface. This is, quite simply, a play-by-play recounting of a very large number of biblical stories we tend *not* to tell our children. Evil spirits are from God. Genocide is condoned by God. Slavery, torture and dismemberment (among so many other things) are often facilitated through God. Fortunately you don't have to take my or Wells's word for it -- it's right there in the Good Book. Finally, we see just how much God takes pride in his killings: "... for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." Exodus 34:14 (KJV)

Wells has done an admirable job of chronicling the murders and genocides perpetrated by the Abrahamic 'god', as revealed in the Old and New Testaments. By furnishing ample context for each killing, he has obviated any hint of jaundiced reporting and achieved a formidable book. The inescapable picture that emerges is of a 'deity' who metes out collective punishments by killing entire tribes, cities or families (inclusive of women and children, and even animals) in vindictive retribution for the 'sins' of prominent men (e.g. killing #'s 20, 23, 65). The biblical 'god' is shown to exact the death penalty for even trifling infractions such as disobedience (#19), impertinence (#101), imperiousness (#99), complaining (#16), skepticism (# 103), putative theological error (#100), and liturgical innovation (#14); but also to sometimes murder innocent bystanders (#'s 51, 53, 68), those seeking to obey him (#'s 21, 87) or to be pious (#77), and kings who show mercy to their enemies (#'s 65, 73). He also frequently inspires people to 'sin', by 'hardening their hearts', thus affording himself a pretext to kill them or their kin (e.g. #'s 9, 29). At other times he kills people at random, without any pretext (#104). Such behaviour falsifies the Christian dogma that the biblical 'god' is a loving and faithful one and betrays him to be, to the absolute contrary, spiteful and untrustworthy. A preponderance of the biblical evidence also indicates that he is a petty tribal partisan, who lacks the universality rightly demanded by Theism. As such, the biblical 'god' ought to be as unacceptable to theists as to atheists. An obvious pretender to godhood, he is by no means above torturing and murdering infants (#82) and takes great delight in sadistic killing methods (#'s 96, 97, 134, 135).The historical crimes of the biblical 'god' demonstrate what he is capable of and suggest how he might behave in the future. Wells elucidates scriptural prophecies which reveal that the Judeo-Christian 'god' plans to exterminate trillions of people in the days to come (p. 10). He reminds us that Jesus Christ has not only endorsed his Father's past killings but prophesied another global genocide for the end times (#4). Indeed, according to the Book of Revelation, Jesus "and his angel sidekick" are going to personally murder an estimated 24 trillion people, by slicing them to shreds with sharp sickles and then collecting their blood in a gargantuan winepress (p. 6). This apocalyptic prophecy is ostensibly indicial of the impossible number of future victims estimated by Wells, hence further discrediting the Bible. The biblical 'god' is hardly one whom sane people can endorse. To defend him apologetically, as so many tragically strive to do, is tantamount to forswearing honesty. Wisdom urges us, as it once did Thomas Paine, to denounce him as a most wicked demon, or at least to hope, with Steve Wells, that he doesn't exist!

Ridicule - a valid type of criticism.,

This review is from: Drunk With Blood: God's killings in the Bible (Paperback)
One reviewer claims Wells's book, is for those who "don't wish to take the work [the Bible] seriously," and he implies its readers are unaware of its "depth of Scripture." He condescendingly gives it a one star rating and recommends other authors.Of course, there are many approaches to Bible criticism and interpretation: scholarly, literary, and historical. Books and courses exist that cover them all. But Wells's approach is as valid as any. He skewers the Bible with its own verses, using dry, sometimes vulgar, logical humor. The reviewer also complains that the book "scream(s) at you inarticulately for several hundred pages." If that is true, then he holds a double standard because that is precisely what the Bible does, and it also provides the fodder for the 'screaming' in Wells's book. What was the reviewer expecting, anyway? A quick glance at the title and table of contents would have told him this book covers 135 gory killings and massacres approved or executed by God in the Bible. Satan isn't even in the running. So, surprise, surprise! This book doesn't concern itself with things like J source vs. P source mythology-its purpose is singular, direct, and useful. Next time your fundamentalist neighbor insists that "God is mercy and love," just hand him Wells's book, and wait in amusement as he stammers and falters in an embarrassing attempt to come up with a long list of unbelievable apologies. You don't have to page through the Bible to locate the atrocities. Wells has done the hard work for you. While it is true that the scholarly perspective of scriptural documents offers certain insights, sometimes blatant ridicule offers refreshing honesty and is more valuable as a wake-up call to society. A snobbish one star rating does this book a disservice.

WARNING: If you read this book, there is no way that you can walk away from it thinking that the God of the Bible is a "loving" and "just" being!! Your eyes will be opened to his evilness and lust for murdering defenseless women, children and infants! But thank God he's fiction!!!This is a must read, especially for Christians. I was an evangelical Christian (Southern Baptist) for 26 years and recently de-converted, and I had not heard of many of these stories. I wish I had read these stories years ago, it would have saved me from wasting my time and money on this disgustingly evil and bloodthirsty monster people call "God".

Drunk with blood simply points out (and tallies) the instances of abuse, violence and injustice inflicted (often arbitrarily or for exceedingly trivial and silly reasons) by God on his creations. It is not meant as a deeper commentary on religion, culture or spirituality, but aims only to reveal what the Bible itself actually says - literally - about the God of the Christians. There is no contesting "the evidence", which is a common text shared by Christians and atheists alike; while many are sensitive about having the Old Testament depictions of the monstrously divine tyrant flung up in their face as they preach about God the kind and merciful, there is no reason that these central inconsistencies and fundamental differences between Christian faith and a literal reading of their gospel should be ignored.

Surely this book can't be true? ... A female acquaintance assured me several years ago that the Bible is 'just love', and surely she should know, having read, as she claimed, the Bible from cover to cover 13 times. It might be 15 or more times by now (I find that hard to believe, as much as I enjoy 'Lord of the Rings', for example, I can't imagine reading it more than 4 times).

You would be surprised at how many "Christians" have NO CLUE as to how many people "God" killed in the Bible; compared to how many people the Devil killed. It comes to "about 60" (for the Devil) compared to God's "about 3.4 billion!" I'll bet you never heard those numbers from the pulpit? I was told by a JW I often question, "No one knows those numbers." What? But WHY? "Those numbers" are all in the Bible. ADD THEM UP! Approximate even, if you must. But 60 to 3 .4 BILLION? WHO is the REAL "killer" here? And my JW friend then replied, "But he always warned the people first." OHHHHH, so now I get it. If I just "warn" someone, its OK to take their life? As long as I tell them 1st, "you messed up, and now you gotta die," that makes it alright? That sounds awful "Christian-like" to me! i.e. "The Christian-way." And my JW friend never did answer my question, "How many people did God kill in the Bible, compared to how many Satan killed in the Bible?" He stated "no one knows that." (Because no Bible-toter ever bothered to add them up) ANSWER: 3.4 BILLION, to 60 respectively. How can anyone with a FUNCTIONING BRAIN, believe "god" is in any way, shape, or form, "better" than the Devil? I mean, Satan lets one live with his "God-given-impulses," and God, only cares about limiting those very same gifts, or impulses, to serve his own Murderous-needs!" The Devil has NO "limits." as to what we can, or cannot, do. "Satan" seems to give us what we desire, (a god-gift) and God only wants to take-away what She's already given. They have a term for "that-kind" of "Being." It is referred to as an "Indian-giver." It isn't the Indians that take their gifts back, it is GOD Herself! Because most men know, women only take, just like a God! They only "earn-it" when there is no other choice. It isn't "God gives and God takes away. It is Satan gives, and God takes away." Or man gives, and God takes away? Because women don't give, they GET. Even if it is something SHE already gave you, SHE will take it back, in the end. Because THAT....is how a woman's brain works. aka, "Do as little as possible and obtain all you can, before moving to the next sucker." But make sure to get it all first, if you possibly can! And then talk bad about him too, after he leaves. Don't even allow him his dignity. WOMEN, have a lot more "in common" with a God, than a man does. One thing I learned from my ex, "If you want to save money, SPEND SOMEONE ELSE'S!" (your spouse's!!)
