Book Description

April 1, 2009
Born an alcoholic and drunk at 5, I battled the symptoms of my disease my whole life. I was viciously attacked by a predator at 10, then went on to win my battle over booze, drugs and an obsession for women, to become one of radio's most successful stories. Tops in the morning in Houston and Miami radio, ultimately, I joined an old friend and bought a radio station in Santa Fe, NM, taking the station from "Worst to First" and leaving with over a million in my pocket. Sober and clean.

I wrote this book to give hope to those "functioning" alcoholics who may see a better way to find success in life, business and with their families. It is a HOW TO book in the sense that throughout the writing, I lead the way with what you have to do next.

The key in this book, is about the reader's ability to "reach deep" into his/her psyche to pull up the honesty it takes to win the battle over alcohol. More than anything, honesty is the key. Ultimately, that's what happened to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put the Icing on the Cake, July 26, 2009
This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
I have known Hoot for many years. We worked together, played together, laughed and cried together. I tried and tried to understand the meaning and reasons of an alcoholic. Hoot tried and tried to help me understand. For someone without an addictive personality I always asked him why. Why can't you look away, why can't you walk away. He explained to me as if he were writing a book. Well, here it is and it put the Icing on the Cake for me. Thanks Hoot, for who you were and who you are.

4.0 out of 5 stars No excuses, April 3, 2009

This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
In spite of his struggles, Hoot was (and probably still is) one of the greatest on-air talents and programmers in radio - all well documented by the ratings successes which followed him from market to market. Drunk & Disorlderly Again is a deeply intimate, heartfelt and painful retracing of his wild antics and his suffering with addiction. Through courage and resolve, I found his roller-coaster story uplifting, inspiring and full of some very funny tales. I loved it!.

4.0 out of 5 stars Changed my view of alcoholism!, April 4, 2009
This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
I read this book from the jaundiced eye of a family member close to an active alcoholic. This it not the type of book I usually read, however I had recently given up on my brother-in-law who had gotten violent with me last Christmas because of his drunkenness. I had recently said, "F _ _ _ him, I don't care what happens to him." After reading "Hoot's" book, I realize that my brother-in-law needs all of our love and compassion, as well as professional help. I will now try to become part of his survival, instead of just watching him plow his way to hell. Thanks to this book, that at times had me in tears, then laughing out loud, I feel I understand some of what my brother-in-law is dealing with, because he won't talk about it and denies his status as an alcoholic. I know each alcoholic has his own demons, but being able to see how one alcoholic finally pulled himself out of his own hell and became sober is enabling. Thanks "Hoot" for a very good, fast read that will make a difference in my life.
