Put the Icing on the Cake,
By
This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
I have known Hoot for many years. We worked together, played together, laughed and cried together. I tried and tried to understand the meaning and reasons of an alcoholic. Hoot tried and tried to help me understand. For someone without an addictive personality I always asked him why. Why can't you look away, why can't you walk away. He explained to me as if he were writing a book. Well, here it is and it put the Icing on the Cake for me. Thanks Hoot, for who you were and who you are.

In spite of his struggles, Hoot was (and probably still is) one of the greatest on-air talents and programmers in radio - all well documented by the ratings successes which followed him from market to market. Drunk & Disorlderly Again is a deeply intimate, heartfelt and painful retracing of his wild antics and his suffering with addiction. Through courage and resolve, I found his roller-coaster story uplifting, inspiring and full of some very funny tales. I loved it!.

Changed my view of alcoholism!,

This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
I read this book from the jaundiced eye of a family member close to an active alcoholic. This it not the type of book I usually read, however I had recently given up on my brother-in-law who had gotten violent with me last Christmas because of his drunkenness. I had recently said, "F _ _ _ him, I don't care what happens to him." After reading "Hoot's" book, I realize that my brother-in-law needs all of our love and compassion, as well as professional help. I will now try to become part of his survival, instead of just watching him plow his way to hell. Thanks to this book, that at times had me in tears, then laughing out loud, I feel I understand some of what my brother-in-law is dealing with, because he won't talk about it and denies his status as an alcoholic. I know each alcoholic has his own demons, but being able to see how one alcoholic finally pulled himself out of his own hell and became sober is enabling. Thanks "Hoot" for a very good, fast read that will make a difference in my life.

A SOBERING tale with a great ending,
This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
Claude Hooten tells a remarkable story of his addictive life, but thankfully, with a happy ending.
His story is an inspiration to alcoholics and their families that there is LIFE at the end of that black tunnel if you want it badly enough. Congratulations

I have devoured Drunk & Disorderly Again by Claude "Hoot" Hooten. I finished it in two days. Positively brilliant, this amazing story totally captures the long term, devastating battle with alcoholism and the corresponding momentary vanishing euphoria that the years of bondage with alcoholism and addiction is truly like. The honesty, self-disclosure, truth and personal hands on style will speak to everyone and anyone's denial of their own bondage. A must read for anyone even remotely associated with addiction and alcoholism be it yourself or a loved one.

self-absorbed,
By Lisa Mann (N.C.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drunk & Disorderly, Again: My Name Is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic (Paperback)
Drunk & Disorderly Again; My Name is Hoot, I'm an Alcoholic, reads like a self-absorbed personal account of a man looking for an EXCUSE for his debaucherous lifestyle. A man obviously blessed with good looks, a way with
words and talent had far TOO MUCH FUN relating his escapades and spent far too little time exploring the avenue of AA which finally led him to sobriety. Hopefully, alcoholics out there WILL learn from this tale but will also see through a cocky and egotistic needs. More SELF-HELP needed; fewer scandalous adventures. |
