Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Dear And The Headlights have tapped into a sound that speaks to people of all musical "scenes," from indie-pop to folk. The band has elaborated on their sound captured some of their live energy in the studio. Drunk Like Bible Times was recorded with producer Bob Hoag (who they also worked with on their debut), at Duff and Hoag's Flying Blanket Recording, the band are ready to tackle new ground. "I think part of the issue with the first record is that we demoed a bunch of songs, and we just demoed them to death," says vocalist Ian Metzger. "By the time we ended up recording the actual record, I had to go in and sing about stuff that I didn't even slightly relate to anymore. When we went into the studio and heard the polished version, we're like, 'Ugh! It's a little lifeless.' On this record, we didn't demo any of the songs. We let playing them out live kind of be the demo just by playing it out and remembering how it sounds live."

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous Sophmore Album, October 1, 2008
By Derek Sperry (Phoenix, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dear and the Headlights returns with their sophmore album "Drunk Like Bible Times" with even more fervor than their debut work. Where "Small Steps, Heavy Hooves" at times gently missed the raw energy of a DATH live-performance, this new album captures it all. From the first line "Are you swingin' from the eaves in a tasteful noose," you get the immediate feeling that Metzger's lyricism has risen to incredible heights, which is then immediately matched in passion by the band's complex-yet-approachable torrents of sounds. DATH will give you a few pop songs on this album, but even then the lyrics merit considerable digestion. And they also challenge the listener with a handful of songs that require marination, but are entirely justified.

This is a standout album of the year and shows just how brilliant these guys are becoming.
