Tremendous Sophmore Album,
By
This review is from: Drunk Like Bible Times (Audio CD)
Dear and the Headlights returns with their sophmore album "Drunk Like Bible Times" with even more fervor than their debut work. Where "Small Steps, Heavy Hooves" at times gently missed the raw energy of a DATH live-performance, this new album captures it all. From the first line "Are you swingin' from the eaves in a tasteful noose," you get the immediate feeling that Metzger's lyricism has risen to incredible heights, which is then immediately matched in passion by the band's complex-yet-approachable torrents of sounds. DATH will give you a few pop songs on this album, but even then the lyrics merit considerable digestion. And they also challenge the listener with a handful of songs that require marination, but are entirely justified.
This is a standout album of the year and shows just how brilliant these guys are becoming.

If you loved the first album, you're bound to love this one.
This album captures the essence of the band; full of energy, amazing lyrics, and some awesome beats. It has a knack to play with your emotions-- songs are painfully honest, while the melodies themselves never fail to make your head nod. This album is pure brilliance, and I recommend it to anyone.

Jangly richly textured fun indie rock, with a touch of Conor Oberst-like singing style. LOVE IT! Imagine if Franz put out Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. Daytrotter actually put it best..."This is Joe Cocker in his hayday, Counting Crows before they became too cool to be cool anymore. This is what Blind Melon could have been with about 2 more years and one more great album."
