5.0 out of 5 stars work of art with art work, December 6, 2005
This review is from: Drunk With the Old Man of the Mountains (Audio CD)
Like much of the best of Nurse With Wound, this just makes no sense. I would call it a musical feast of drum circles, laughter and the female orgasm. Swamp Rat, especially, catches this drum circle groove. Rhythm as melody has never been done better.

Per the liner notes this CD was originally released in January 1987 as an edition of 100 signed copies each with two original paintings, and a facsimile edition of 555 copies was released in December 2003. Track five, Shattering Man Falling (1984), was recorded live at Bar Maldoror.

Mr. Stapleton hisself is responsible for the cover painting, which may or may not be a portrait of the Queen Mother with a mustache. I, of course, prefer to think it is.

Nurse with Wound is not for the faint of heart, but I just love this cd which is so much more concentrated than the double Second Pirate Session. Mid-80's industrial at its best!

4.0 out of 5 stars What a good name for a band., October 13, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I first discovered this band when I stumbled upon a clip of their live show online. I think maybe that is the way it is most meant to be experienced.

Sure, you can give this a listen in your bedroom at 3am while you wait for the demons to come out from under your bed and through the cracks in the door... but it might scare you too much. Lots of this stuff is pretty weird. For example in "Astral Dustbin Dirge" you'll be slowly carried along a lulling journey into space, soon turning into an amalgamation of demonic breathing, a heart monitor beeping, a woman gasping, channeling through the left and right speakers in no discernible pattern.

Overall a very dark body of work, but I also find it to be generally quite soothing and calming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Drunk With the Old Man of the Mountains (Audio CD)
If you were one to make such distinctions, Nurse With Wound is more sound than music. Sounds under spooky ambient textures.

I am not one to draw such a line. I perfer to think of the inversion--the sound of music, the music of sound. The more you know of both, the more they become the same.

Listen to the hum from a space heater or the low grade buzz of an activated microwave, and it takes on musicality. There is a pitch to it somewhere in do-ri-mi-fa-so-la-ti-da.

Nurse With Wound don't invent anything in their use of sound to make music, or the sound of sound itself. A lot of this goes back to early 1970s bands, like work on Cluster '71.

But Nurses music is more fleshed out and runs at a higher level of activity. This is excellent when this is the head you are into.
