What is a Druze?,
By Roi Soleil (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Druze Faith (Hardcover)
While living in Lebanon during the civil war I became facinated by the Druze fighters I encountered during my assignment. I was completely ingnorant of the Druze religion, the people and their history. I located Makarm's book in a local book story and devoured it over a weekend.I had found the Druze to be the most hospitable, friendly but fierce fighters during the war. Their devout faith and social customs out-shone the other sects and revealed a people truly content with their faith, culture and postion in life. Happy. Makarm's book was like a road map to the notion of Druze spiritual development and faith. Very readable and enriching no matter your faith. Worth the time.

This review is from: The Druze Faith (Hardcover)
I am an American of Lebanese descent. My Family is Druze but i never knew what the faith was about having grown up going to a southern Babtist Church. This book was recommended to me by my relatives in Lebanon as the most accurate and well researched of all the books regarding the Druze. It was a quick read and very well done. If you are a serious student of the Middle East - Israel, Syria and Lebanon in particular - this is a must read.
