A fun little book for fans of food dehydration.,
By
This review is from: Dry It- You'll Like It (Paperback)
This is a friendlier, more personal book than Mary Bell's Complete Dehydrator Cookbook. There's not as much in it, in terms of content, but there are things in here Bell doesn't cover - like drying grains. (Make your own corn chips with this book!)For those who don't have a dehydrator already, or for folks who like to build things themselves, there are detailed plans and instructions to build your own "living foods dehydrator." If you were to own *only* one book for food dehydrating, go with Bell's book. If you like to have a cooking "library" (as I do), this book is a terrific addition to it. "Try" it - you'll like it!

this book is the companion to the living foods dehydrator, a 7 shelf (each = 2ft X 2ft) low voltage electric element dehydrator. i've owned one for 18 years and it's still going great guns! it's especially good for those who have access to lots of cheap/free fresh foods to dry. like they say: "dry it - you'll like it!"

We've had this book since 1978. My husband made the drying rack, and used a bunch of light bulbs wired in series with a thermostat instead of the "warm air generator". It's been running for over 20 years! It's so simple to use. The book takes you through the process and gives great recipes. We came here to Amazon looking for the book for other members of the family. We're glad to see it's still in print. It's worth every penny.

This book is informative, easy to read and cleverly written. An easy guide to drying everything from apples to zucchini. It is great for beginners as well as experts. It not only tells the how to's of drying, but how to use and store dehydrated foods.

I found this book in the '70's and liked the plans to build a dryer from relatively inexpensive materials... I did make a minor change however. I added a bottom, cut a hole in the lower back and inserted a multispeed/heat hairdryer. A aquarium thermometer works fantastically due to the temp scale... Everything I dried came out superbly.....

Gen Macmaniman is well ahead of her time and yet preserving nature at it's finest the good old fashioned way!
I found this book by accident while looking for something else. As I stood in the store thumbing through it I found myself getting drawn in more and more. Along with helpful knowledge about drying basics and great recipes Gen has included diagrams and instructions for building your own dehydrator! I have a new Excalibur dehydrator but can hardly wait to get going building Gen's dehydrator with my brother! I love how simplistic this book is yet how incredibly informative! I am an experienced dehydrator and a certified raw food chef. I use Gen's book regularly as a reference to most of my dehydrating and food storage needs. Thank you, Gen, for this treasure!

The Book, and Dehydrator, Still In Use After 30 Years,

This review is from: Dry It- You'll Like It (Paperback)
Thanks to Whole Earth Catalog, we bought the Living Foods Dehydrator (Gen included her book with the purchase) in August, 1978. Both are still in excellent condition and are used on a regular basis. Thank you Gen MacManiman!!! This book may well have been the inspiration for us to purchase a juicer and to start sprouting seeds, two additional activities we have continued to this day.
