I had been having problems for several months with my triple core ACER system due to an ignorant mistake I made allowing an internet "free scan" advertised to me to "free scan" my hard drive. (Yeah I know call me dumb). Well it "free scanned" alright and after that every 30 minutes this pop-up advertisement would come on my screen; bounce me off the place I was on and I'd have to wait 8 (seemed forever slow) seconds for this advertisement to creep up and down the screen of my desktop. When playing on-line games I would get bounced back to the desktop and interupt my game play, usually at the most crucial times. To say the least it was annoying but I tried everything I could think of to get rid of it to no avail. I located it on my tool bar but it couldn't be removed, I used my McAffee scan and dug deep into what it could do but it could not remove that maleware. (guessing its maleware). I googled the internet following lots of others advice and ways and means which didn't solve the issue. It wasn't until I bought this product (recommended by a coworker) that I finally got rid of it. It was like having the worse case of itching hives, being in frustration and misery and finally relief. Ahhhhh!. It quarantined that annoying maleware/popup I had been tortured by for months and let me tell you the joy (revenge) I felt when I pressed "delete". (I laughed like Rinfield all through the house...((tah hee, hee, hee hee)); good thing no one was around to witness this). This is a great product and I only ran the basic scan to have it find my primary maleware item; a total of 9 undetected items that my McAfee did not. If you are having a horribly frustrating time with maleware or popups that you can't get rid of I truly suggest trying out Malewarebytes. It was well worth the $20 for eliminating the maleware/popup; bringing peace of mind and for eliminating the need for "colorful metaphors" to pop up in my mind (and occassionally out of my mouth).

Not really writing this to pan the product, but just to describe my experience with it, and how I am now using it. I have friend or two, who are IT pros, and mentioned that they use this all the time to find and eliminate malware missed by common AV programs on clients systems, which is what prompted me to purchase it, and use it on my own computer. I already run MacAfee AV on my Vista laptop, but know from other people's experience that AV's don't always detect and eliminate some of the spyware and adware that's out there. Anyway, the Malwarebytes Pro loaded up fine, and I updated without a hitch..then ran a complete scan on my system. In my case, nothing was found, but I still intended to keep it on board as another tool to fight infection. Problem I had; was I immeaditely found my computer was running quite a lot slower...especially when online. I tried adjusting and playing with many of the settings in Malwarebytes, but just couldn't get it to improve performance at all. Finally, I just shut MB down completely, and made sure it did not start/run upon computer "start-up", but left it installed on my system. My computer now runs as well as it did before, so I have decided, to once a month, start MB up, update it, and run a full scan on my system, then shut it down again. I know I will lose the active (or really pro-active) protection available with the product, but the slow down I experienced is just unacceptable for me (and for the most part, the MacAfee has been doing a great job). So basically I am using it as a detect and clean up tool on a periodic basis. If anyone else out there has found the same experience as I have, and found some way to "tune" Malwarebytes to truly run full time, without slowing things down...would love read your comments...Thanks!

Backdoor.bot is a nasty trojan that has the capacity to keyboard log my keystrokes (great way to get passwords, etc). Full scans with Norton's software didn't find it, but the freebie of Malwarebytes found it and eliminated it. Malwarebytes will be loaded on any future computer I own.
Note:
If you buy the software on disk and have the freebie MalwareBytes software downloaded on your computer, you have to eliminate the freebie software first through Control Panel at Add/Remove programs then do a restart then go to their website ( [...] ) and do the final cleaning there. After that, you install the software on the disk. The MISSING_FILE (3,0, mbamswissarmy.sys and EXPANDING_VARIABLES (0,453) error messages resulted in a complete cleaning of the freebie software first then reloading the disk software. Hope that helps if you have problems loading the software from the disk to your computer.

I have had MANY virus programs on my computers over the years. Avast, Norton, and Kaspersky, and the freeware scanner only version of Malwarebytes.

Although ALL of these antivirus programs are great, when it comes to just malicious software removal Malwarebytes has them ALL beat! Although full version programs such as those listed are GREAT and you absolutely SHOULD have one of them on your pc's, Malwarebytes CONSISTANTLY found things others missed! I could post a copy of the virus event logs from all and Malwarebytes has found just as many or more in all cases!

I would highly recommend this product for all Windows users. I saved a friend's computer from several Trojans that took over his computer. It took a lot of work to be able to install this product and run it but that was only caused by the Trojans. Those suckers would not allow access to internet and all types of folders and installations. I finally ran this Malwarebytes program after getting it to install and run in safe mode and wow it took care of all those horrible Trojans. I even used the file assassin program that comes with the purchase to destroy extra file extensions to some other forms of viruses that were hidden from his standard Anti Virus program.
