Bought this as a way to entend the wifi signal in our house. Upstairs, in one corner of the house I'm running a Netgear R6200 Router. I've confirmed 72Mbps connection to it on the 2.4Ghz network, and 480Mbps on the 5Ghz (LG G3 using Network Signal Info app from KAIBITS). I initially set this up as a repeater, and it worked fine. The only downside is that you can only get half the network speed, and if you're already at 70% signal strength, it might be less than you expect. I then set it up as an AP. Speeds are better, on par with what I would expect from an 802.11N router. I was impressed with how far the signal travelled, as now I could pick it up almost 200 ft away in the backyard.

Using this with Google Chromecast.

I was having trouble connecting my Chromecast to the repeater and after going back and forth with ASUS, and doing some Google research on my own, I think I found the trick to make it work. The Chromecast would see the network, but I could never connect to it. Based on the research I did, and learning that some of the necessary network settings are no longer visible in the online interface (but should be enabled by default), the way I was able to connect it was like this: On the 2.4Ghz network, for signal, instead of 'Auto', select 'Legacy'. I think this works because the Chromecast radio broadcasts over 802.11B. After changing to legacy, I connected the Chromecast, confirmed it worked, then changed the signal back to 'Auto'. Speed tests confirmed that my signal was back to N levels, and the Chromecast continued to work flawlessly (no lagging or buffering during Netflix/Plex streaming.)

This unit was very quick and easy to setup and provides a strong signal to areas of the house that aren't covered well by the base router. It's even faster if you buy the high speed Asus USB wireless adapters. I am able to link and sustain over 200MBPS from a floor below the router. Money well spent.

Was frequently losing connection to tablets upstairs. Hooked this baby up (simple) and no more problems, On the 5G side, my Roku streams HD movies like I'm watching cable TV. Have not yet had a buffering situation. Total satisfaction.

I was going to buy the best reviewed wi-fi extender, but then I happened to see this item in a review outside of Amazon. That outside review led me to do more research on this item. I am very glad that I did! As a very satisfied user of other ASUS products,I knew that this item would be equal to or better than most of the same items in this category. Was a snap to understand the quick setup guide. Within 5 minutes it was up and working! One recommendation for Win 7 laptop users. Use the option B in the setup guide which uses the unit wi-fi finder button instead of typing in web address. Also,an extra bonus! When unit is plugged into ac outlet,it has a nightlight that works nicely! I would give this item 8 stars if it was possible!

Works great, but you do have to remember to change the SSID (WiFi name).

When you first set it up, your are prompted for the SSID to attach too. You would think that, by default, it would use that SSID as the SSID that you wanted to expand. Nope. It takes that name and adds "-RG" or "-5RG" to the name (i.e., SSID-5RG. That means if you want to use the extended signal, you have to change the network to one of those networks.

However, if you change the extended network name to be the same as your SSID, your devices will automatically use the extended network.

Also, please remember to change the default admin password.

As others have said, unit worked great until the 5 GHz radio stopped working. Unit connected to both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks with no problem and the unit worked great for exactly 8 days before mysteriously the 5 GHz radio seemed to have disappeared. Unit wouldn't connect or repeat my 5 GHz network no matter how close I located the repeater to my router (N66U). Seems like this is a common problem for this unit. Returned this and got a set of TP-Link powerline adapters and a RT-53 router setup in AP mode for about the same price.

This is an awesome product it's a range extender for your home Wi-Fi, and covers both 2.5 ghz and 5 ghz bands for normal and streaming video. It also has a RJ45 Internet connection jack, for a wired internet connection to your wireless router, and a mini-stereo jack for using a wireless audio signal, which can jack into a surround sound or external speaker. I highly recommend this excellent Wi-Fi repeater/extender. Great Job ASUS!
