This review is from: Dual Diagnosis, Second Edition: Counseling the Mentally Ill Substance Abuser (Paperback)
This is written by and for clinicians. There is enough general information for the trainee and practical tools for the more seasoned therapist. I find it hard to find comprehensive works on dual diagnosis and addiction. I highly highly recommend this book.

This review is from: Dual Diagnosis, Second Edition: Counseling the Mentally Ill Substance Abuser (Paperback)
As someone who has been a treatment provider for people with addictive disease and co-occurring disorders for over 20 years, I am very grateful to have such a fine, practical resource for becoming a better provider. Dual Diagnosis, Counseling the Mentally Ill Substance Abuser, Second Edition, by Katie Evans and Dr. J. Michael Sullivan, is, in my opinion the best book out today that addresses the treatment challenge of providing care for this group of individuals. They preserve the integrity of the tried and true, abstinence-based, 12 Step program apporach to treating addiction, while also offering professionals a comprehensive approach to incorporating psychiatric services for other disorders that are present with the addicted person. I thank them for this excellent book. Chip Abernathy, LPC, CAC. Smyrna, GA

This book provides a very good, comprehensive overview of dual diagnosis. The balance of research-based information with practical application has been very useful in learning the difference between why a dual condition exists and how to approach a very complex population.
