• The plot begins with a treasure hunter named Rumble learning about a treasure, the Dream Stone on Sonno Island and setting out for it. At the same time, Tumble, who is a magical dream creature called a baku, is summoned by the Dream Queen to protect dream orbs. They both come to the same island and after a strange twist of fate become partners. Bakus can exist both within the dream world and the real world, and Rumble uses Tumble to travel into different peoples' dreams searching for the dream orbs. Most of the dreams become nightmares full of dangerous monsters.

Dual Hearts is a fun game. I really like it. It plays well, it doesn't look bad, the characters are funny and the music is pretty fun. But I have to wonder how much of it is special and distinguishes it from other great titles on the PS2 and how it holds up to them.

Matrix Software has helped produce good games recently, and they work on some popular franchise, but for a IP of their own, Dual Hearts is definitely different. The game has its share of classic tropes, cliches and ideas, but I think it gives them a fun edge, even in the gameplay itself. It can be a little tedious to work with sometimes, but I feel the actual gameplay isn't particularly flawed, and the story is pretty fun as well.

The main and side characters are actually a lot of fun to me, some aren't as interesting, but I find their general character and dialogue to be quite fun. The graphics aren't bad, and I actually like the way the settings look quite a bit. And as stated before, the music is fun.

The game's difficulty isn't tedious, but it can be. But it's nothing too frustrating to me.

Obviously, the game doesn't really quite compare to titles like the Grandia or SMT titles, the predecessors or PS2 releases, and it won't hold up strong to a lot of other titles either, but I do think it's fun and has its own unique charms and ideas (to a point) that make it a game worth enjoying.

I have 'harsh standards' for games, and considering when the game was made, it has a handicap to start with. But this doesn't effect to what degree I enjoyed the game (as in thinking about such circumstances doesn't increase the game's value or enjoyment for me). It was meh.

Dual Hearts is a game for those who want a game with a simple layout and gameplay. It is so easy to figure out, although sometimes finding some of the key items (Gold Esamons, Dream Energy, ect.) can be highly annoying. The graphics...are not as good as they should be. The characters bob back and forth as they are talking, it looks as if the characters movements aren't well timed when the dialoge balloons pop up. You only get to hear and real voice over once or twice, the rest of it is dialoge balloons.

Sometimes in some dreams Yuri's and Chiffon's for example, the screen blends together in a fuzzy picture or multiple colors. This is HIGHLY annoying.

The characters Toma, Emma, Yuri, and such others look like jokes. Especially Toma. (I've never seen such an ugly fat dude in a game. Well, besides Krew from Jak II) The sounds are hilarious. When Val is crying it's like...some gurgling sound or something to that effect.
The plot is simple, though in a few moments funny and touching.
I now digress from bashing the game. In truth, I kinda liked it, but it now serves the purpose of easing my younger brother into the video gaming world.

All in all, if you want something easy for you to work on after a long RPG maybe this is the one for you. Maybe not. Whatever the reason, you will at least like the fact you can skip through whole scences with the push of a button. (*punches the air* YES!)
