I loved this story. The ending thoroughly surprised me. Great job. I loved the idea of the parallel universes. I can seen a whole series of novels based on this one short story. I do not want to say too much for fear of ruining the story. Just read this one.

JC Miller's Dual got me from the first paragraph, opening with a woman stealing boots from a corpse. From there, we learn a bit about both the world Betty inhabits, the other worlds that may or may not exist elsewhere, and also a bit about Betty herself and her... interesting personality.

There's a few parts where the sentence structure is a little awkward, but otherwise the story flows well and is a very agreeable page turner.

Dual is a simple tale told well, and Betty's an interesting protagonist (especially by the end of part I!). The ending is solid, wrapping up the tale nicely but leaving plenty to the imagination. I quite enjoyed it.

What a truly delightful, clever and imaginative story this is, with just enough of the dark side to add some chills into the mix. It also has one of the best opening lines I've come across: "Betty looked down to her feet at the pumps she had stolen from a corpse." My only hope is that there will be plenty more like this coming from the author. Don't pass this one up - highly recommended!

"Dual" - a story line that has not been done to death. This new author is loyal to the plot and the conclusion is elusive until the end. She referred to it as a 'short story.' I think it's much more than that and deserves to be ranked as a well done novella. Not sure why Miller chose to include the number of words used to tell this tale because it obviously has nothing to do with why you should buy the book or whether it's a good read - so don't let the minutiae distract you. My suggestion is that you purchase and read the book. If you like innovative science fiction, you will love "Dual," and if I were a betting person, I would wager that you would not be able put it down until you've read through to the last page. That's how good it is!

A nicely crafted story that's just the perfect length for a lunch break read. A neat concept of multiple dimensions and doppelgangers, and very well explained in a short amount of time. As for Betty... very cool how I felt several emotions towards her in under 6000 words. Starting with sympathy, then nervousness towards her slyness, then suspense, and finally shock. AWESOME ENDING. Nice work Jeanne Miller.
