An iPod touch inside the GPS & Battery Cradle. |
The GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle--front view |
The GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle--back view |
A fully adjustable Car Windshield Mount is included for in-car navigation |
Overview
The GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle gives you the freedom to use your iPod touch as a fully featured GPS navigation device in and out of the car, without the need for a Wi-Fi connection and with no subscription fee. Its built-in GPS also works with most other apps that require GPS information, opening your device to many more cool uses.
NavAtlas App for Turn-by-Turn Car Navigation
The NavAtlas U.S. & Canada Navigation app is included with purchase and works exclusively with the GPS Cradle. The latest US and Canada maps from Navteq are built-in, so there is no need for a Wi-Fi connection. The app has all the features commonly found in GPS navigation devices, including:
GPS
The high-sensitivity GPS receiver is built directly into the Cradle (not the windshield mount), giving you GPS capabilities wherever you go. The GPS receiver provides GPS information to the included NavAtlas turn-by-turn navigation app, as well as most other location-based apps available for the iPod touch.
Rechargeable Battery
The built-in rechargeable battery can power the GPS for approximately 10 hours of continual operation. You can also use the battery to recharge the iPod--doubling the life of the iPod battery. Charge the Cradle's battery via your car's cigarette lighter or the USB port on your computer.
Music and Voice Navigation Playback
A built-in amplified speaker loudly delivers navigation voice prompts. When in a car, you can also easily connect the Cradle to your car stereo and play your music and navigation voice prompts through your car speakers.
Listen to Your Music While Navigating
The Cradle allows you to play music on your iPod while in navigation mode. Music is automatically muted when directions are being spoken, and resumes afterwards.
Easy Charging and Syncing
The Cradle features a mini USB port for charging the rechargeable battery or syncing the iPod without having to remove the Cradle. Mini USB to USB cable is included.
Secure in-car docking
The included windshield mount securely docks the Cradle with the iPod, and attaches it to the windshield for easy viewing and access. The mount is fully adjustable, including portrait and landscape positions. It has a built-in DC power jack for charging the Cradle's battery from the car's cigarette lighter, as well as a 3.5 mm audio out to connect to a car stereo.

Support Issues (among other problems),
By
This review is from: Dual XGPS300 Portable GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle for iPod Touch w/ North American Navigation App (Electronics)
Update 9/18: While it took a while for the new unit to become available Replacing it was very easy and didn't take too long. Right out of the box, it was obvious they addressed the problematic issues. The new finish on the unit looks more durable. Only time will tell on that. They included an audio chord that has eliminated the high pitched noise it was making before when I wasn't playing audio through it. And the new cradle fits the unit better so it's not so difficult to get it out. That was most likely the reason it broke before.
I'm giving it a 3 star rating until I have time to use it a while. If it keeps working and looking the way it does now it will most surely get a better rating. Update 7/22: Dual promptly arranged for a credit to iTunes for me to get Navigon. I hope the replacement for my unit goes as smoothly. Update 7/20: Dual has since put a phone number on their support page and I am working with them to correct my issues. Once I see how it goes my review will change. They have indicated that they will replace my unit as well as the car mount. Two weeks ago, apple upgraded iPod touches to iOS 4.0 and the free maps that come with the XGPS300 no longer work. I've also had an issue with the finish on the cradle chipping. Plus, the car mount is of poor quality and let's out a high pitched whine when no audio is being played by my iPod. I've sent a second support request to address the poor quality of the cradle and car mount as well as addressing the fact that NavAtlas no longer works with my touch since I upgraded to iOS 4. The first reply only addressed the iOS 4 problem. Even then they just said they are working on it. If I don't get a reply to my satisfaction I will then file a complaint to the FTC.

One of the Worst Company Ever !,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dual XGPS300 Portable GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle for iPod Touch w/ North American Navigation App (Electronics)
I've bought this for my ipod touch 4g and it had my hopes up but everything changed when i got it :
1. it doesn't work with ipod touch 4g which wasn't mention at the beginning , actually even now they just say it works with ipod touch 1,2,3G but anyone who owns ipod touch 4g shouldn't buy this. 2. the battery charging works really bad as it doesn't charge rather than it tries to keep the battery at its certain status e.g. : if the battery is at 50% it doesn't increase it but more likely it keeps it longer around 50% . 3. i've tried it with an older version it worked fine but it runs out of battery very fast which is also weird as one of its main purposes is to charge the ipod !! so overall , it doesn't worth it. update : i've contacted the company and they told me to wait for an update ?!! so i've spent 200$ for nothing !!!

I would wait.,

Okay Update: August 12 2010
After I sent them two emails, I got a reply back that wasn't very helpful in my mind. Nothing about the coating peeling was said, but they did want to offer me a $50 gift card on the tunes store of which I don't think I will take. As if you try and remove Navatlas I am given a pop up saying that " Application Not Installed This accessory requires an application you do not have installed. Would you like to install it from the App store? " So in my mind what's the point of having a app that does not work and if removed will always give me a pop up, this is using ISO 4.0. Honestly the company has some real problems with the app and gps cradle, even so that apple have removed there unit from the store page. If you want a GPS device for your touch, I would wait for them the gather there collective brains and fix there issues or buy another brand as I have wasted $200. Things that have gone wrong for me. Coating peeling from unit. 12v cigarette adapter giving of interference to stereo receiver.
