Great start to HD radio in your car,

This review is from: Dual XHD6420 4X50 Watt Hd Radio and Mp3/WMA Player (Electronics)
This is a great car receiver for anyone who's interested in free HD radio. It's hard to tell the difference between FM and HD radio FM, but the additional channel on each band allows the user to listen to more music. The huge improvement is listening to AM radio on HD. For Bay Area residents, listen to KNPR 1050 Sports (too bad they don't broadcast HD on its sister 680 AM band). The difference between 1050 AM and 1050 HD is truly amazing. The front AUX is a nice feature where you can plug in your iPod or MP3 player with a mini-stereo cable. When you play a MP3 CD, you can search quickly for the MP3 (by number) you want to listen to by using the volume dial (better than using the buttons).
The only problem is it takes nearly 5 seconds to synch from regular radio to HD, and it's not a very stylist front panel. But it only costs $130 or less... I got the unit installed by Best Buy so I can't tell you about any installation issues (installing my previous car receiver was a pain so I decided to pay for labor this time).

Had this for a couple of weeks now, and I still love it. The sound is great, the functions are simple and easy, and the CD player has only skipped once over a VERY rough patch of road (in a Mustang with a stiff suspension, no less). Even without the HD Radio part, the radio reception on this deck is MUCH better than some of the others I've had.
My only real gripe is how it switches back and forth from HD Radio to analog radio and back again whenever it loses signal from HD, at least on the stations that simulcast on the same frequency. For example, if I'm listening to 97.9FM, when you first turn it on it'll play analog while it buffers the HD signal, then it'll switch over to the HD signal and you'll hear the same 4 or 5 seconds of audio you just heard on the analog side. This is annoying as hell when you get to the outer limits of a station's HD range, at which point you may as well switch off HD reception; the alternative is to put it in HD-only mode, but whenever it loses signal there, you get complete silence while "LINKING" displays on the screen, which is even more annoying to me. I also kinda wish I'd opted for the slightly higher-priced version of this deck with the USB port on the front, but oh well, this deck plays MP3's off of CD-R's just fine without any problems, and the auxillary jack on the front is handy for your iPod or mini-MP3 player or whatever else. I'm much more pleased with this deck than the Kenwood my girlfriend just bought for $40+ more.

This stereo exceeded all my expectations. Its easy to use and the sound is simply amazing. I got HD reception many FM stations which were so much clearer, almost like a CD. Even the AM stations were clearer, an added bonus. The knob is easy to use and its simply a beautiful blue lit faceplate. I would highly recommend.

If you want a really decent car stereo that has HD radio for a great price, this is the deck for you. Nice set of features for a unit in this price range. The Aux input on the front is really handy for playing your iPod or MP3 player through your car speakers. This unit comes with a remote, but I don't know why you would need it unless you want to let your kids control the deck from the back seat. HD stations sound great with this unit and the regular FM stations sound really good too. The CD player sounds excellent as well and the equalizer presets make it easy to get the best sound out of each source you listen to. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I'm not crazy about the clock display. (That's a minor point though.) All in all, an excellent value.

I got the radio in a very timely fashion. I bought it to replace a radio in my truck that could not play CDs and thought I would give HD a try at the same time. Installation was a snap. I was able to switch color for color. It slid easily into the dash where my former radio was mounted.
I would have given a five star approval but the directions for making the settings were a little confusing. The HD is great. You'll find new radio station on the same dial with old numbers, and the HD is FREE. I'm for anything that is free. My son liked the radio also and said he would like one for his truck, so I bought him one for his birthday.

I wish it had a TUNING KNOB.
Where have all the Knobbys gone. Superior set for the money. I did not put it into a car. I am using it as a portable radio in a box that I made with a rechargeable battery. The only complaint is (It needs a GOOD antenna) I had to add on a antenna amp for AM to get good reception. FM is beautiful. Bass-Boost is great. I would buy another one.

I've installed this unit in my 89 toyota pick up. I absoloutley love it. very easy to install. works amazing. looks good. the volume goes up to 46 which is crazy loud. AUX input works great with my mp3 player. i currently have my XM xpress hooked up to it. works great. some reviews say the dial is too thin. i havent had a problem with it. its easy to turn. the HD works well, even if it does take a few seconds to load. i live in the mountains and i get great reception. great unit for a good price. i will buy from DUAL again. highly recommended!!!

I bought this for my daughgter's mom for christmas, despite the few reviews that claim the reception isn't so great. Obviously the reception depends on how far out in God's Country you live, and your antenna. She lives in the Orlando suburbs with a stock antenna, and she says it works great. Advice: Seek professional help. Uhh, I mean, you know...to have it installed. :)

I shopped around on Amazon for awhile before deciding on this player, I wanted something less for a hundred with a mp3 aux and CD player, plus its Blue:). This had everything I needed at a great price; it even came with a remote that I hadn't seen as advertised as having. The only thing I had a problem with is having to buy a wiring harness for it, but I think thats mostly because I have a foreign car that the harness that came with it didn't fit. Otherwise I love it!
