Makes the best toast possible,

I bake my own bread, and I love to eat homemade bread that is toasted. But my toaster browned the bread unevenly on each side. So I had been looking for a new toaster. I saw a recommendation for this new Dualit Lite toaster. (Their regular toasters have a good reputation but are super expensive.) This new one was more in my price range, so I purchased it from Amazon.
This toaster is the real thing. It makes great toast, evenly browned on both sides across the entire surface and perfectly crisp, just like I like it. It has a bagel feature as well that lets you warm the outside and toast the inside. It has a small slide-out tray at the bottom for easy cleaning. It's a great toaster at a very good price. I couldn't be happier with it!

I bought this toaster because I was sick of continually buying $15 toasters from the likes of Target. First of all, this toaster is bulletproof... just picking this thing up you get an immediate sense for its quality. Second, its got very simple functionality - a knob you twist to make the it toast more or less, and a lever you pull down when you want the toast to go down. Super simple, just the way it should be. The toast comes out tasting great everytime, and I have had one projectile piece of toast (as noted by other reviewers)... just dont put your toaster too close to the sink. Its a very satisfying experience using this toaster, and every time I make toast I think to myself "I'm glad I'm making toast with my Dualit instead of some junky black&decker throw-away. I fully expect to have this toaster for 20 years.

This toaster looks good on your counter and is very sturdy. However, the toaster's raison d'etre is to produce toast, and at least mine produces very inconsistent toast. When I set the toaster on 3 (out of 8) and put a piece of wheat bread in, it is usually 'well done' on the side that faces the center, brown on the top part that faces the outside, and barely done on the bottom part that faces the outside.
The bun toasting feature, which works pretty well, is its only saving grace. My Sunbeam toaster that I bought for 15 dollars was better than this one.

The Dualit 2 slice toaster is a dream come true. After using a toaster oven for years and getting horrible toast, I finally purchased the best appliance I have in my kitchen. The toast comes out evenly toasted to your selection of dark or lite. The one side toast feature I've used on bagels & rolls is outstanding. It is well constructed & easy to clean. As you can tell, I love it. So long toaster oven, Welcome Dualit.

i really like the look of the toaster, and it does a nice job; on one side. the toasting elements on one side in each slot do not fully heat up so it toasts one side more than the other - will be trying to get it repaired, or likely, will have to get a new one.

OK - it does give the toast a bit of a ride and sometimes it hits the plate when it pops up! (It's ok- I like a bit of fun with my toast.) But overall we are satisfied. It toasts quickly and pretty evenly and great design counts for something too! Wide enough for bagels, OK for smaller pieces of bread.

Bought one 3 years ago. Within a few weeks, the rubber foot "melted" and rubber kept getting on my counter top. Then the foot finally disintegrated. And a week ago the heating elements broke and it now burns the toast on the lower half of one side. Disappointing considering the hefty price; this is not a $20 toaster after all. Do not recommend.

The Dualit toast-slinger really works!,

I love toasted breads, especially bagels, English muffins and whole-grained bread, and this Dualit Lite 2-Slice Toaster does a fine job of making all of those. When it comes to toasting bagels and English muffins, it has a setting that lets you toast the cut side without burning the outside, and this even works with frozen bagels. The slots are wide, and it has a centering system that results in even toasting on each side. If you look at the product photo, you'll notice that it has a lever which allows manual lifting of the toasting basket, so there's no need for digging inside to remove jammed or broken pieces. It also has a convenient tray on the bottom so that crumbs and small pieces (especially from English muffins) can be removed easily.
I got tired of getting junky throw-away toasters every six months to two years, and most toaster oven aren't much better. Went to a local specialty cooking store, and the salesperson showed me models from KitchenAid, Cuisinart, and one on a special sale from Krups that had a high-tech LCD display that seemed to do everything. I asked what brand the salesperson owned, this individual replied that she had owned a Dualit for years. After looking at the two, I picked this model. Have had it for a few years now, and haven't regretted it. Toast-slinger: on the humorous side, this model is a toast slinger. If you are going to toast a single slice, especially a thin slice of very light bread, you run the risk of this slinging the toasted slice onto the counter or the floor. Your pets (especially dogs) might be grateful, but after a couple of times of this happening, you may wish to monitor it towards the end of the toasting cycle, consider using heavier breads or contact Dualit's tech support to see how a simple modification can be made. It doesn't seem to happen with bagels, at least on my unit. I also like the retro styling, and you can get it in a few different colors. Fully expect to have this toaster for many more years to come, but if this one ever goes, then I'll probably spring for the more expensive chrome Dualit 2-Slice Toaster with its ejector lever, a model that keeps toast warm until the ejector lever is pushed up. It's simple, efficient, and prepares toasted items the right way. If you like toast and bagels as much as I do, then this may be your answer. 4/2/2008

Tired of my cheap toaster that wasn't wide enough for bagels, I went searching for a new one.
This one had all of the features I was looking for: Wide enough for bagels Adjusting wire holders to secure thin or wobbly items Extra lift to retrieve short items No-nonsense controls One-sided bagel feature if desired Easy to clean crumb-catcher Cord not too long, not too short Reliable company The bagel feature is really nice because you can push the button at any point in the cycle and it will instantly turn the heat coils on or off, letting you choose how long you want to warm the one side or not. The only thing I can't figure out is why the settings go up to level 8. So far the most we've used is 3 and 1/2. Maybe for frozen pastries? I guess it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Although I thought the price was a little steep, after looking at the big box stores at the less expensive ones, I decided this was worth it. Edited review July 24, 2010: I still like this toaster, BUT...even the lowest setting can SOMETIMES result in almost burned regular sliced bread, but not always. Weird, I know. It's not like I'm doing several slices of toast and the toaster gets tired. It just seems inconsistant. I hate having to watch my toast to get it just right, but it'll have to do till this toaster dies. I still have NEVER used any setting over 3 1/2. |
