Smitten by the possibility of having old English craftsmanship preparing my toast after several years of disposable toasters, I ponied up 75 bucks for this baby. When my dog sees this toaster come out, she waits patiently to race me for the slice before it hits the floor. Results are not much better than a 20 buck Chinese piece of junk. Fair to good toasting of many bread & English muffin types. If this toaster lasts, maybe the launching mechanism will wear down a bit after a few years and work properly.
UPDATE - 1/3/09 - three years later - I get the blue flash of death - huge blue spark when the lever is pushed down - I've gotten older and slower - my dog has gotten fatter from all the toast and muffins she's eaten off the floor. Hey, I see they have a 300 buck model out now - Hmmmm - No Way - got a 20 buck Hammy Beach toaster @ Tarjay yesterday.
I'm happy - it works great - nice even toast. The pooch however does NOT approve of this model because it doesn't launch the toast when done!
LOWER RATING TO ONE STAR - the Dualit was also inconsistent when attempting back to back batches - a fair amount of cool down time was required! 4/17/09 further update - my dog wants the rating changed to 5 star - she hates the new toaster - it doesn't launch anything.

I needed another toaster for our ski lodge. I've used DUALIT chrome toaster for many, many years and just loved it.

When I went to amazon.com and saw a DUALIT LITE toaster at $79.99 I was in awe of the price. Ordered it and just love it.

Perfect even toasting, american style pop-up toaster and can accomodate my favorite bagels.

I can't believe that you can purchase a quality DUALIT product at this pricepoint. I highly recommend that you go out and buy this item. I'm going to get several as holiday gifts!!!

Just purchased this toaster and it is being sent back. Even on maximum setting, it hardly toasts. We tried different breads, different settings and it just doesn't work right. We even tried toasting (on maximum) one lot of bread (not good) and followed it by another lot of bread (better, but not adequate)on the theory that it was warmed up after the first lot of bread. Forget it.

On the up side, the toaster looks good. But for $80 it should toast better than my old $9.99 Black and Decker!!!

British style and design? Good! Chinese workmanship? Sucks! I'd have paid the extra 5% or 10%, or whatever, for this toaster if it was assembled by a reliable workforce. Why? The lever that controls the carraige never worked and the unit had to be returned for a new model. What a pain. That's okay for a cheap tosater, but for an $80 toaster it's not okay.

This toaster toasts. It has a bagel setting and a reasonably wide slot. It's simple and solidly built. After hating life with a T-Fal Avante (please, don't buy one of those), I bought this one and would buy one again if I were to lose it in a tornado or a divorce. It toasts evenly every time, and if you like black toast it will make it without pushing the button down 17 times. (Also makes great regular toast too). Once in a while I have an english muffin land on the counter, but it isn't like it should carry a warning label not to point the toaster at a friend or that you should wear safety goggles. After wasting a fortune on that T-Fal piece of junk bread warmer (read my review, seriously) I can live with a toaster that's got a robust ejection spring. At least this way I can hear it over my wifes hair dryer.
UPDATE: 02Dec09 This toaster is still going strong. The spring has relaxed a little bit and hasn't launched anything in a very long time. I still love it, as well as my wife and her hair dryer.

This is a well-made toaster. As it was built in the UK, it appears designed for their sensibilities, i.e. it toasts one side darker than the other - probably for english muffins or crumpets or something. It still does a fine job for toast, but would do a better job for bagels or...

I bought the Dualit Lite 2-slice toaster (in white) to replace an inexpensive KitchenAid that has begun to toast unevenly. I figured if I spent more $$ -- $80 instead of $30 -- I'd get a better toaster. Silly me! This Dualit is one lousy toaster. It felt flimsy and cheap right out of the box, especially the darkness dial. But the main thing is, it produced uneven toast, dark in the middle of the slice but barely toasted around the edges. It also left the bread barely warm in the center, but to heat the center it would seem you'd have to burn the exterior. Blech, forget it. Back it went. The high-end Dualit may be as wonderful as everyone says, but this one isn't worth a penny.

The toaster toasts unevenly on two sides. However, I use it with frozen bread, so it may perform better on non-frozen bread. But it sure looks great on the counter!
