5.0 out of 5 stars Great toaster: Update after 3 years and 5 months of use
We have had this for six months and it has been great. The bagel feature (putting the bagels in with the cut side facing the center of the toaster, pressing a button, and the cut side comes out toasted while the bagel's outside does not get burnt) works really well.

We have had this for six months and it has been great. The bagel feature (putting the bagels in with the cut side facing the center of the toaster, pressing a button, and the cut side comes out toasted while the bagel's outside does not get burnt) works really well.

Its counter space footprint is smaller than the four-in-a-row style four-slice toasters. But the unit is substantial and solid.

It is easy to get the toasting setting right and it accepts weird shapes and sizes well - conversely, it's also easy to get stuff un-stuck when necessary. It cleans up easily both inside and out. The styling, well we think it goes well with our contemporary decor, though friends said it would look good in their colonial.

We can't speak to how long it will last, but so far, it's great.

Update: Ten months with the Dualit Toaster have been, well exactly the same as the first few months. It works extremely well and I am glad we picked this one.

Some other benefits that the extended test period have revealed are in the durability and looks areas. We go from having just two of us to having a houseful, so when we need to pop out great toast, one set of four slices after another, the Dualit takes it all in stride; it does not overheat or loose its setting (some toasters will get confused and pop out under-toasted toast under repeated use - but not this one.)

Additionally, we really liked the texture of the plastic surfaces, they are matt finished - almost soft textured - and not just shiney palstic. I had some concerns about how long that finish would last after being exposed to heat and sunlight. I am happy to report that it has not yellowed, singed, or distorted. It still looks, well exactly the same as the first few months. The chrome is flawless.

Daulit - very nice toaster.

Update: It's still a great toaster after 3 years and 5 months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful toaster, September 13, 2005

Finally, a toaster that does it right!

I was a little hesitant about buying this toaster at first since $120.00 seems like a lot of cash to shell out for a toaster. However, when I thought about the fact that I use a toaster numerous times almost everyday I realized it is one of the most used appliances in our house. With that in mind, and a string of disappointing toasters in my past, I sprung for this little beauty.

As I mentioned, we toast a LOT of stuff in our house. From wimpy little white bread, pop tarts and waffles for the kids to English muffins, hearty wheat bread and bagels for me. Past toasters needed either constant attention or produced very unpredictable results. We burned A LOT of stuff, especially when going from a bagel to a piece of white bread.

I am now pleased to report that we burn nothing. The heat adjustment on this toaster is outstanding. It clicks like a dial on a safe and no matter what you have just toasted and no matter if the toaster is hot or cold, the level of browning is the same every time at every different setting. When you find the perfect setting for an item you can be confident that that setting gives you the exactly the same result every time.

The slots are both long and wide. I have yet to have any problem with any item we have put in the toaster regardless of the size - even for very thin items. The wire holders in the slots adjust very well to all sizes.

The bagel option is my favorite part of this toaster. When toasting bagels, English muffins, buns, etc. you simply set the browning dial, push down the lever and then press the button in the middle of the browning dial. The toasting light starts to flash indicating that only the interior warming coils are engaged. Perfect toasting inside, no toasting on the outside. A wonderfully welcome option!

If your tired of guessing how your toast is going to turn out, tired of throwing away burnt toast and/or tired to standing by your toast to make sure your toast comes out right then this is the best buy you'll make. I can finally set my toaster and then simply wait for my food to come out perfect.

This toaster has FINALLY made toasting simple - its worth every penny. It even feels like a high quality item - this thing is designed well and built well. You can see it and feel it but the real proof is in the output. You will not regret buying this.

This toaster looks, feels and works like a quality appliance. Bread pops up enthusiastically, but it doesn't fly out of the toaster. My boyfriend's daughter says it's like cartoon toast. The bagel feature works great and there are long slots for toasting pita bread halves and wider-than-Wonder bread from the local bakery. The price was higher than toasters I saw at Target and Macy's, but there's a noticeable difference in construction quality. I fully expect this toaster to last many years.

I have had as high as 5 toasters out in the garage in the never ending quest for a great toaster. My family had a Sunbeam that automatically delivered the best toast ever. I have yet to find a toaster that delivers the same quality. The Dualit is a very good looking toaster and certainly is a good looking addition. It delivers better than average toast, but I did experience a break-in period before it delivered acceptable toast. All the reviews gave the setting 3 as the best setting, mine burned at 3. So there is going to be an adjustment period. I want toast that is toasted all over the surface of the bread, not just in the middle. All toasters deliver good toast at first then as they age, you get untoasted areas on the top and bottom of the bread. I suspect that getting toast like the old Sunbeam delivered won't happen as the new toasters have wider slots for different sizes of bread. All and all the toaster seems to be performing well but I plan to revisit this review in about 6 months.
I am revisiting this review. My toaster is now producing toast that is not toasted about 1/2" on the bottom and if two pieces are in the toaster, then they will be untoasted on one side and the bottom. It is a beautiful toaster but is no better than a number of the competitors who charge about $25 less. The quest goes on......

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Toaster!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Dualit 45373 Lite 4-Slice Toaster, Soft Touch White (Kitchen)
I really love this machine. Makes consistently good toast and I like the bagel one-side toasting feature as well. The only negatives are the strong spring that sometimes sails the toast out on the countertop, and the high cost of the purchase. For me it was worth the price, though, being fed up with those low-priced toasters that die or fall apart not long after buying. We have 10 people in the house so it gets lots of use.
Recommended overall a good buy!

This is a perfect toaster in many ways. Well made, stylish, versatile, performs well, toasts evenly. It fits those chunky long slices of artisan breads or oversized french bread slices, which is the reason I purchased it. Breads that are thinner and lighter like Sunmaid raisin bread must be cooked at about setting #2 while thicker old world breads at about setting #3 or #4. It has a bagel setting that toasts one side and warms the other. I haven't had anything burn. Toast pops up normally and I have not had any pop up cartoon like action from mine. It has a extra boost lift handle for shorter bread so you don't burn your fingers. I also purchased the sandwich cage which we have used everyday this week. Example - I used Oroweat dill rye bread two overlapping pieces of Tillamook pre-sliced cheddar cheese (removing excess corners from the squares to fit the bread) and a deli slice of ham folded in half. I spread a thin layer of butter on the outsides of the bread and set it at about #3 setting. Perfection! Toasted beautifully and the cheese melted inside perfectly, no mess! Any drips are easily cleanable in the bottom tray. The sandwich was not squished in the cage at all. A perfect fit. I can't wait to try the sandwich recipe's they sent along with it, such as mango chicken. I am considering ordering a second cage. The long handed cage works fine for this toaster. If you order from the UK you can get two shorter handled ones as a set for not much more than the price of the long handle single but your shipping cost would be more. I do not know why they do not seem to be available in the USA.
This is a British company and "Brits" know toast! Although this is a new product in our home, I must say that I highly recommend it.

At last, a toaster that actually toasts! I especially like it for English muffins because it has a "toast on one side" feature. It's taken some experimentation to get the darkness level just right, and it can't seem to "understand" frozen bread, but overall, very happy with it. And it looks great too.

If you often toast just one slice, or two, instead of four... expect this toaster to burn the edges, even at low settings.

With four slices loaded, the toasts come out nice... crisp and brown.

I bought this toaster to toast astisan breads and naans... if the bread occupies the entire space, this toaster works well for them. If the bread is shorter than the space available, the edges come out burnt or worse-charcoaled. If you lower the setting, the edges are fine, but most of the bread's center does not toast.

Lacks reheat and defrost button. The toaster's user manual suggests using "1" setting for reheat. Tried it, but instead of reheating, it burns the bread.

Bagel button works. Decent toaster, overall.

The website I purchased this from won't let me leave a review so I'll do one here. This toaster lasted 3 days before we packed it up and shipped it back. No matter how low the setting the inside edge of the toast burned. If we set it at 1 it wouldn't toast and we had to toast it again and then the whole slice would burn. At 2 the edges would burn. For something over $100 you'd think it would work -at least for a few months. Very disappointed.

We've had this toster for about 3 weeks and we're tyring to return it. The toast is uneven both vertically and horizontally, and burns at #4 out of 8. We need a long 4-slice toaster because we buy bread that is wider than regular sandwich bread. This is a real disappointment at $120!
