Classic Roots dub,

Sly and Robbie at the height of their instrumentation. Sly lays down rhythm tracks so tight, you could count down the next NASA rocket going into orbit with it. And Robbie lays down bass riffs so funky and imaginative, no two bars are exactly alike, yet the discipline to not stray is formidable.
Coupled with the raw dub effects and Michael Rose and Puma's voices echoing in and out, this album is one you can listen to over and over without it ever growing old on you.

This album is some of the best dub around and should be a must have for any dub enthusiast. I'd say this album is %80 awesome, with only a few weak tracks. One of my major gripes is that Uhuru's sounds are a bit similar from one track to the next- one might say they were taking a formulaic approach. This is most obvious in the bass parts.
All gripes aside, when this album shines, it is blindingly brilliant. The sound quality is clean while still giving a low-fi vibe that roots lovers will appreciate. The instrumentation is soulful. Basslines have many minute variations- constantly altering similar riffs to maintain familiarity while still mixing it up enough to stay interesting. This is not a sytnh-based production. The dub edits are of course, awesome. Reverb and delay are used to great effect. |
