If you like dub...,

This review is from: Dub Come Save Me (Audio CD)
A fantastic "remix" album (some new material..even Chali 2na contributes some new lyrics), Roots Manuva has really embraced the dub tradition on this release...something he has been hinting at on his previous two. He lets the album run the gamut from old school Perry-styled hard beats to more contemporary Mad Professor's chaotic rhythms. Some of the tracks are reminiscent of his hip-hop stylings on the "original" "Run Come Save Me" while others are reworked tunes in the classic dub styling.A worthy addition to any dub fan's collection and a must-have for any Roots Manuva fan.

I'm a huge fan of Brand New Second Hand, and although I enjoyed Run Come Save Me I was a little dissapointed with it. It was great to hear Roots Manuva expand his musical horizons, and he came up with some great songs. But as an album, I thought it was unfocused and at times boring. I picked up this remix version of Run Come Save Me cautiously, but as soon as I put it in my stereo it blew me off my feet. Original and creative, it took me back to the simple yet powerfull statements of Roots' first album, while at the same time exploring new and exciting ground. An incredible album, one that makes it clear Roots Manuva is one of the most incredible and original talents today.

Roots Manuva has obviously got some West Indian influences in his Music. I think he is from London. His music is a definite must hear. He has got that dubstep mixed with electronica. It sounds quite nice. He got some tight flows, if you want to hear more songs that have lyrics, you gotta cop Run Come Save Me. This is Dub Come Save Me, some songs have lyrics, the others are straight dubstep electronic and all.

This is a pretty good cd. Contains the classic "Witness Dub" and a few other trippy techno influenced hip-hop and dub reggae type beats, plus some vocal tracks as well. The problem I have with it is the cheesy way some of the tracks are blended together as a turntable dj making the switch to digital formats this is very dicouraging. It makes the disc very difficult to work with because someone has already mixed the tracks together in a very poor sort of way. If a disc is going to have this done to it record labels should get on the ball and list them that way. Let's face vinlyl is getting expensive, but I like to support the artist so record labels here my call put out quality unmixed albums in digital formats so people like me will keep supporting you.

I like roots, but this dub disc is mediocre. It's a decent effort overall but there are a couple dogs on there. The Charli-Tuna collab is pretty tight. I like about 60% of this disc.

Unexpected release...,

After "Run Come Save Me" and it's creativity, popularity, and critical success, I figured Smith for the kind of guy who would let it all go to his head and try to prove himself with another groundbreaking hiphop album. Instead, he has taken his skills on the mic and the mixer and had some genuine fun creating traditional dub cuts. I'd almost like to remove all the full-verse rap from this album and have a pure dub CD to listen to, but the alternating vocal tracks & instrumental tracks work very well...
