What makes this CD so good you may ask?

Recorded back in 1983, this still sounds amazingly fresh, in contrast to most of the technical gimmickry of the time, which sounds laughably dated.
DJ Primate
I enjoy listening to all their songs while driving, reading or listening to their songs over a cocktail or my beer on the beach.

For many dub fans, nothing can match the music that came out of those mythic times at King Tubby's, with that wonderful cast of characters that included master producer Bunny Lee, the Aggrovators (Chinna, Santa et al), Tubby's disciples Prince Jammy and Scientist, and singers Johnny Clarke, Linval Thompson, and Cornell Campbell. However, when it comes to a truly original dub creation, the music on this CD is hard to beat. It's a whole new take on dub, akin to what Sergeant Peppers was for rock. These tracks do not sound like "versions" of songs but rather fit together in a symphony-like whole created from scratch. The Dub Factor is not just a great dub CD but a truly singular work that transcends popular genres.

Words cannot do this album justice. I just put it on after not listening to it for a while, and it will be on my chart for a while, for certain.

Recorded back in 1983, this still sounds amazingly fresh, in contrast to most of the technical gimmickry of the time, which sounds laughably dated. Perhaps that's because this album is more about ARTISTRY...

While some tracks (most notably for me, the indescribably eerie "Apocalypse") are more effective than others, a track-by-track analysis can hardly do justice to the otherwordly atmosphere and flow of this album. It is truly a mesmerizing groove from start to finish, expertly mixed, with superior tunes (mostly from the band's sublime "Chill Out" album) as a basis.

Everyone was at the top of their game when this was created, and it is truly dub to send shivers up and down your spine while the rest of your body moves and grooves to the rhythm.

This dub album is truly unique and very magical- anytime I want to change my mind-state I put this on. A natural way to alter your mind without even smoking any of the gange!

I took a car trip to the Florida Keys last week and put this album on as we drove past lush tropical greenery, Carribean-blue waters and tiny tropical islands out at sea. Pure magic!

I bought this C.D. as an accident, not knowing that it was dub. I was almost going to return it, but after listening to the songs a couple of times it turned me into a dub fan. I would suggest this album to any reggae lovers, even if you generally dont like dub.

Unreal Dub! A true classic. If you don't have this album you might as well listen to Back Street Boys.
Sly & Robbie are true masters in their own right, this well produced album is timeless.
Actually, I missed my freeway cutoff by 10 miles while listening to this album.

If you want to know what DUB can do to music, you should buy this CD. This is DUB the way DUB should be! Ten mighty riddims layed down by Sly & Robbie for various Black Uhuru albums are mixed in a Special Dubwise style by Paul "Groucho" Smykle. Originally mixed in 1983, this album hasn't lost any of it's quality for me, it remains one of my favorites from the day that is was released. I dare to say that if you don't have this album in your DUB top ten, you don't know what DUB is!
Paul Smykle completely changed the vibe of every single track in a very skillfull way. All tracks completely differ from their original versions and have been blended together into one mix for a Dubwise experience extraordinairy! That's right, all the riddims are presented in one big mix, and you'll bound to listen to it from the top to the very last drop once you've started playing the album.
It is simply impossible to ignore THE DUB FACTOR. This album is mixed in 1983, but it will still beat most of the DUB's that are created today. When you'll play it in a chill-out room, people would love it. And that is why you can't ignore it. The further we go in time, the more people like it.
Unfortunately Paul Smykle hasn't released much more of his special DUB mixing. The brethren is well gifted with a lot of talents. He is not only a killer DUB mixer, but also a great painter: the cover art for Aswad's New Chapter of Dub was from his hand.

The level and originality of deconstruction, reconstruction of the songs by Paul Smykle has yet to be surpassed.
The essences of each instrument or sound is captured and fly in and out of the mix seemingly at random but truly add to the powerful, minimalist overall feeling of each song.
Snippets of Michael Rose and Puma Jones echoed vocal samples along with the twisted and tortured sections of Sly and Robbies' rythms make you want to listen over and over again to catch every intricacy in the mix.
Hunting down the originals and then listening to Smykle's interpretations is just awesome.
His rendering of Sly and Robbies' "A Dub Experience" also ranks right up there as one of the outstanding efforts in dub.
Get these two and judge all others against them.

This is no formula dub. Each song is it's own inspired creation from the opening beat to the end.

Smykle puts his soul into every echo, vocal drop, and snippet... meshing everything together so it "feels" just right.

Dub Factor will never get dated. You could pop this on twenty years from now and it'll still sound fresh. Because it still sounds fresh today evoking curiosity from anyone I turn it on to.
