What a treat!,

Wow what a treat this album is! This quartet, drums, bass, and 2 tenors, follows in the tradition of the classic Elvin Jones Live at the Lighthouse featuring Liebman and Grossman. The tunes (by Drummond, Potter, and one by Pat Metheney, as well as a few not-so-standards) are great. My particular favorite is the title track by Billy Drummond featuring beautiful blowing by both Chris (on soprano) and Walt. Potter and Weiskopf play off eachother and the rhythm section well, and the energy is a tactile presence. Drummond and Washigton, from the very first beat, illustrate what two great rhythmic musicians are capable of when they are into the moment. This album is a captivatingly musical effort by all involved, and is one of those special albums that merits repeated listening. It offers a glimpse of what truly great jazz is available today. Billy Drummonds other release on Criss Cross: The Gift is another side worth checking out, and we can hopefully look forward to more great projects headed up by this fine drummer and musician. Highly recomended
