Editorial Reviews

Dubber Side of the Moon features the complete sequence of Dub Side of the Moon remixed by a handpicked list of cutting edge and legendary producers. Since its release in 2003, Dub Side of the Moon has been a phenomenon, spending 7 years on the Billboard charts, selling over 200,000 copies worldwide and kicking off the still-growing-strong recording and touring career of the Easy All-Stars. The band has now put its music into the hands of Grove Corporation, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant, Mad Professor, Adrian Sherwood, Dubphonic, Liquid Agents, Dubmatix, Dreadzone, Victor Rice, Kalbata, Scientist, Michael G, Border Crossing and J.Viewz and the results are a futuristic foray deeper into the unchartered territory traveled by the original release. Mixing deep dub grooves, up to the minute dub step riddims, and more, Dubber Side is a journey fans old and new alike will want to take.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Distanced and Darker Side of the Dub November 5, 2010
By K C
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
It has been fun comparing the two versions of "Dark Side of the Moon" that has been covered by the Easy Star All-Stars. First off, if you don't have the original "Dub Side of the Moon", that is still the place to start. More than likely though you already have that album and are wondering if this one is worth getting now. The answer to that question depends upon what you liked about the original.

These mixes in the "Dubber Side" album have taken yet another step away from the original Pink Floyd album. More than just re-mixing the original "Dub Side" album, many new additions have been added... as well as a few things removed. The album opener loses the sweeping guitar that was very Gilmour-like, and replaces it with a horn section. The next song, On the Run, was one of my favorite remixes. It had less electronic treatment and received a driving reggae influenced bass line. The entire song Eclipse is rearranged, putting the female chorus out front and almost giving it a bossa-nova groove in the rhythm.

Then you have a more dubbed and electronic versions of the songs Great Gig in the Sky & Brain Damage, and a darker side of the song, Money (pardon the pun). Both Money & Us and Them add electronic baselines and backgrounds that give the songs much more atmosphere and changes their whole feel. Which brings me to what I did not like about the album.

The second version of Money (the Mad Professor Remix), as well as the song Step It Pon The Rastaman Scene (Border Crossing Remix), seemed to be just thoughtless add-ons. Adding echo effects and splicing together pieces of the songs don't really make it new. Also, I downloaded this and the sound is not as good as on "Dub Side".

4.0 out of 5 stars More explorations in dub March 8, 2011
Format:Audio CD
So if you liked the first take on this concept, Dub Side of the Moon, you will most likely like this. If you're more of a reggae/dub/dubstep or just all-around music fan and you liked that album, you'll like this. If you're more of a Pink Floyd fan, you'll find that they've departed from the original material a lot more than they did with Dub Side of the Moon. The guest remixes are great, and this release is s stellar purchase. It breathed new life into it for me. Overall I'd recommend it for most people who enjoyed the first one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant effort! April 10, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I loved the 'Dub Side Of The Moon'. I wanted more, and now I've got it. Okay, it's not quite as good as the first one, but it's totally new and original. Like they started from scratch and built another version of the entire concept from the ground up. Much of it is brilliant and certainly worth the $8 download. I'd rather listen to this version than Pink Floyd's any time. If Easy Star comes out with a third one I'm getting that too. Five Stars for the Easy Stars!

Easy Star All-Stars previously released a Dub Side of the Moon but this one is more "Dub Stepper" style. I prefer the previous one, however if you love dub stepper probably you will like it

Dub Side of the Moon is an all-time favorite, so I bought/downloaded Dubber. Had to listen to it on my laptop with cheesy speakers because I haven't yet figured out how to get it on my Nano. Maybe that's why I like it rather than love it.
