This Eastsidaz comeback is pretty wack. A piece of garbage, really wack. Don't waste your money on this. Altough they got the help frok such names as Alchemist, Hi- Tek (one of the few good moments on the CD) the majority of the songs r pretty wack, even that collabo with Mobb Deep. From Blues , Jazz, funk , to rap; good rhythme is very important
and should never be forgotten. Rock stars remember Elvis and Jimmy Hendricks for their achievements and contributions to music. The Beetles are constantly praised for their style of music, many artist have mimicked their styles along with thier own flavor. Snoop has done that as well, by acknowleging the great Funk Masters of the past and adding his own flavor. His style of rap is so unique, that people of all ages will enjoy listening. Snoop closes the generation gap; where as a young person may not listen to Bootsie's Rubber Band they will listen to Snoop and get a taste of the Funkadelic erra and enjoy it. The more matured adult who would not ordinarilly listen to rap, will listen to Snoop Dogg because they loved the Funk erra and hear that strategically played in his music. Snoop's music is great!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dope album, August 2, 2001
This review is from: Duces N Trays: Old Fashioned Way (Audio CD)
I love this album! It's ten times better than the first one, and that one was great too. I'm a true underground head, so I don't really check for the West Coast besides Xzibit & Ras Kass. But this album is really good. DJ Hi Tek, Alchemist, DJ Pooh, Battlecat, Fred Wreck, Meech Wells, Swizz Beats and more. A perfect album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Snoop makes some real music..., August 6, 2001

Well folks, after years of waiting, the population's craving of some good Snoop Dogg music has finally been quenched. This cd is one of the best I have gotten in a long time. It has great beats and smooth lyrics that stay in your head all day. I'm not kidding, if you liked Snoop back in the Doggystyle days, then pick up this cd and listen to it, it's real. It beats out St. Lunatics and D12 by a long shot. I have been waiting for a good Dogghouse cd ever since I heard let downs like Da Game is 2 Be Sold and stuff like that. No fooling, hook up with this album, a taste of old school mixed with new millenium. It's hot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tray Deee's da bomb, Snoop n G are o.k... U need this., January 14, 2002

Firstly, i'm a BIG fan of Snoop and love all hiz work! I've recently even learned to like Tha Game Is Not To Be Sold so I must like him!! I just can't see how people like this over the original Snoop Dogg Presents! Fair enough this is a five star effort from Tha 'sidaz but the first effort wuz more of what I wanted.. It's faster and still comes correct on the lyrical front.

People are right, production is tighter on this one.. But slower, other people seem to not mention this, maybe that doesn't matter to them but it does to me. Also I need to say (as no-one else does) Tray Deee has to be my favourite rapper, he's soooo talented with hiz rhymes. Hiz voice is gravely and rough but hiz ryhmes are smooth and slick.. Every word seems to rhyme which is hard to find! Snoop n Goldie Loc are o.k but Tray blows them both away!!

All songs on the album are good, some are excellent - I Love It & Now Is The Time - but like I said it's good but slow... If you like the ol' G-Funk go for the 1st album Snoop Dogg Presents Tha Eastsidaz before you get this as it IS superior (don't listen to every1 else), but essentially you need both. Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars ILUVIT!!!, November 11, 2001
This review is from: Duces N Trays: Old Fashioned Way (Audio CD)
Snoop Dogg presents the Eastsidaz sophomore set Duces N Trayz was released earlier this year on the Dogghouse Label and it doesn't disappoint. There is no sophomore slump here thats for sure. This was released hot after Snoop's excellent Last Meal and there is no falloff for Snoop.

The production is what makes this cd better than their debut. Where the debut had that old G-Funk sound of early Snoop work, this one brings in the new element.......Crip Hop. The west coast sound was effectively updated on this cd. Production is provided by Battlecat(who is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers) Hi-Tek, Alchemist, FredWreck, Meech Wells, Jelly Roll, Ric Rock and Swizz Beats providing a tasty west coast platter.

The rhyming is provided by the Eastsidaz (Snoop, Goldie Loc, and Tray Dee) with guest appearances by the usual family members: Kokane, Latoiya Williams, Doggys Angels, Nate Dogg, Soopafly, Suga Free, Bad Azz, Butch Cassidy, Kurupt, RBx and others as well as outside talent provided by Mobb Deep. The rapping, for the most part, is satisfyingly gangsta without overdoing it. They remain real and believable on their songs (instead of just gangsta talk) which is great.

My favorite song is Crip Hop where Battlecat beautifully crafts an outstanding beat. The Eastsidaz come correct lyrically and Latoiya Williams on the break demonstrates why she needs a solo album with her sultry ghetto singing voice. The chemistry between the participants is off the chain. Other notable tight songs include: ILuvIt, Eastside Ridaz, I Dont Know, Welcome To the House, Friends, Gang Bang For Real, Cool, Dogghouse In Ya Mouth( a diss to Death Row), Connected, There Comes A time, Late Night, and Lo Low. Connected is surprisingly a very good song feat. Mobb Deep. It seems like these two groups wouldnt mix but they do an extremely good job here.

Dont Go Thinking that there aren't any bad songs though. I Pledge Allegiance is so weak that it isnt even listenable and the beat is unbelievable WACK! Also Swizz Beats does terrible on the beat as usual on Everywhere I Go. But Kokane and Eastsidaz salvage the track with some good flows.

This is that new West Coast sound and it is definitely a worthy purchase. Snoop Dogg and the Eastsidaz create magic on almost every song. Pick this up. Snoop Has Done It Again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tight album, October 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Duces N Trays: Old Fashioned Way (Audio CD)
This album is definitely an improvement over the first since it's much more consistent. Tray Deee really shines on this album and proves he's a skilled and talented emcee and belongs with the elite of west coast emcees like Xzibit, Crooked I, Del, and Ras Kass. Goldie Loc is a good complement to Tray Deee's aggressive style. However the strength of this album is the music. Battlecat, DJ Hi-Tek, Fredwreck, et al give this album a dope, funky, musical ride with influences from 70's era funk combined with new school hip hop. The combination worked brilliantly. This album is maybe 2 week cuts from being a masterpiece but as far as I'm concerned this is a must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eastsidaz are cool, August 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Duces N Trays: Old Fashioned Way (Audio CD)
This cd is very good. Eastside Ridaz, I Don`t Know, Friends, Gang Bang 4 Real, Cool, Late Night, Now is the time, and ofcourse the first single I Luv It are all very good tracks. There should be more Hi-Tek produced cuts, he and the Eastsidaz work well together as heard in; 'Eastside Ridaz' and 'Cool'. And Soopafly should produce more tracks for Dogghouse, he`s on the label anyways. Make 'Cool' the next Single if you wanna go double, maby triple platinum... Dogghouse should release Soopafly`s solo album next, it`s his time now...

The first one is OK, pure G-Funk, but this is something I can't describe...Snoop & his crew really disapointed me...By the way his dogghouse record's roster is a lack of talent like no other label in the game, they got Doggy's Angels which is garbage too...`cause right now he's on some downfall...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Vast Improvement, January 13, 2002
This review is from: Duces N Trays: Old Fashioned Way (Audio CD)
On last years effort I found myself just listening to "Now We Lay 'Em Down", "Nigga 4 Life" and "Big Bang Theory" before switching CDs. This year however, shows considerable improvement, Tray Deee has never sounded so hot and his lyrics are getting more creative. Goldie Loc has gone down a few notches below sh*t in my opinion and I find myself often skipping thru his verse to get to Deee's an example of Loc's lyrical 'talent', "now if i wasn't rappin' muthaf*cka y'all'd be starvin on my nuts without bucks like Marvin" Ooooo!! what WILL he bless us with next. Snoop doesn't actually do much on this record except occasionly the hooks, which is good because Snoop hasn't thrown a REALLY good verse in nearly 10 years. The best tracks here are by far "Now Is The Time" (Tray Deee solo) "Gang Bang 4 Real" ('cept 4 Loc's verse) and "Connected" with Mobb Deep.

PS. I first heard Tray Deee on "Dogg Food" back in 1995, since then he's appeared on "Tha Doggfather", "Kuruption", "Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha", "2001", "Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back", "Word On Tha Streetz" and "Tha Last Meal", among others.
And I've heard that his debut solo album will be droppin in 2002, it's called "21st Century: The Ice Age" and it's gonna be the f*ckin BOMB!!!!!!!!!!! He's never disappointed me !!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!! So it had better be the f*ckin bomb. Anyone know when it's comin out? Just post it on UR review.

PPS. I just wanna say to people who think this is the best type of hiphop, IT IS NOT!!! So it has tight beats, so what?! Listen to these albums and you'll probably never look back:-

Chino XL "I Told You So"
Canibus "2000 BC"
Dr. Octagon "Dr. Octagonecologyst"
Ras Kass "Rasassination"

Just buy those 4 to start. Believe me, you WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!
