Save Money. Save Energy. Save the Environment.

By weatherstripping your home you're not only saving money, you're conserving energy and doing your part to help the environment.

Did you know:

  • The average family needs to heat a home for six months out of the year.
  • About 30 percent of a home's heat escapes through small cracks and holes that are not always easily detected.
  • Sealing your home can translate into an annual household savings of 5-30% on the cost of fuel bills.

Older homes are especially vulnerable to drafts, but even new homes can develop drafts as they settle. It's smart to check for drafts in any home, regardless of age, and it's easy.

Sealing Windows to Save Money

EPDM Super Seals will save you time and reduce the hassle of insulating your windows from winter drafts. And, they are a great alternative to purchasing pricey new windows.

Super Seals are available in Medium Gap, Large Gap, Uneven Gap, and Variable Gap weatherstrip seals.

Home Winterizing Check List

Do one of the following tests to find where cold air is infiltrating your home:

  • Have a person stand outside after dark and shine a strong flashlight around the edges of doors and windows. With the lights turned off inside the house, take note of where the light is visibly shining through to pinpoint areas where cold air is entering the home.
  • Try to slide a sheet of thin cardboard under a door when it is closed. If the cardboard slides under, the gap is large enough for cold air to enter and heat to escape.
  • Move around areas near windows and doors with a burning stick of incense, or a lit candle, and see if the smoke, or flame, is being blown by incoming air or escaping through cracks.

Sealing your home can translate into an annual household savings of 5-30% on the cost of fuel bills

It was very easy to install and seems to work rather well.

I have had no trouble getting it to stick...I wiped the surface with rubbing alcohol then let it dry before applying it.

It works great on the small gaps between my door and its frame.

It was very easy to install and seems to work rather well. I did the leaking side of my front door and part of the top.** I noticed a marked degree in the amount of air coming in/going out from that side of the door. I also had to readjust the locking mechanism on the door frame so that I could close the door from the outside. But I was planning on doing that anyway since sometimes it would stick.

** Make sure that you measure your door before you order. Don't just assumed that 1 roll will cover your entire door. While I didn't need it, I was surprised at how quickly I ran out of material. Also, you may want to order an extra roll in case you need to make adjustments. Finally, it is really important that you thoroughly clean the area that you plan to stick the adhesive. I used a bleach based cleaning spray and some paper towels so I could see when the dirt/grime was gone. It went up just fine and is still holding in place.

I ordered this weather stripping to install on my office's commercial aluminum door and frame. My building is older so there was previously no stripping installed at all. It was just a painted metal door closing onto a painted metal door frame.

The installation took about ten minutes and I'm not exactly the handiest person in the world. I think that if you can put a postage stamp on an envelope, you can install this weather stripping. Some other reviewers have stated that the tape wasn't sticky enough. Before installing, I did prep the painted metal surfaces by wiping them down three times with some rubbing alcohol on paper towels. The tape appears to be holding very strongly.

The difference from pre-installation to post installation is like inside versus outside for lack of a better pun. Before, I could hear all of the traffic from the street and feel drafts coming in and out. I don't have any of that now.

Per another reviewer's recommendation, I ordered two packages to make sure I had enough tape. I had about 10 inches left over after making a U around my standard size door (36" x 80"). So if you want to fully enclose your opening (make an O as opposed to U), then you might need to buy two sets.

Another reviewer wrote that the "stickiness loses effectiveness in transit." Sure, that could happen. But to easily prevent this, just peel off as much tape as you need to at a time. As in, don't peel 10 feet of backing off the tape to start, peel off one inch at a time as you're putting it around your frame and it'll be fine.

I highly recommend this product.

-Strong adhesive (not sure what the other folks are talking about)
-range of sizes makes it possible to get the RIGHT size
-Nice & pliable easy to work with

Only complaint is that yes, one pice around the door will have to be cobbled together from 2 'leftover' pieces. c'mon, give us 1 single 17' roll instead of 2 8.5' or whatever it is. That's it. Nice product.

This seems like a high quality rubber weatherstrip material-wise, but I've got two beefs about it. The adhesive is weak - plan on throwing a couple of tacks or staples at it at the end/turns and the packaging made for crazy folds and creases making installation a bit goofy. The 17 foot long weatherstrip is really two 8.5' sections that must be ripped appart, which is pretty clear from the picture, but wasn't properly depicted that way in Amazon's description. Amazon's product description also says it's gray but I'd say it's more pure white, like the picture. I would have given it 5 stars if the adhesive had been better. Good rubber, however, which is probably the most important aspect. Would recommend.

I originally bought the 3M brand of this style of product at Target and of course ran out so instead of paying the non sale price I went online and bought this add on item deal.... Initally when I opened the package I like the feel of it better than the 3M and it was better looking also just as easy to install. Cons are the glue isn't as good as the 3M product and it already has started peeling in some places so I just have to randomly repress it to stay.

Does NOT work as expected nor stay in place with the slightest variation in temp!

Maybe closing a window tight down on it might work - but as far as vertical applications - forget it. Backed rating of 2009 off to a 1 start -
*******************************************************************************

Split as directions noted - applied - door frame gap during warm weather - loosened the next day - poked back in w/screwdriver for next 3 days - seems to be holding now colder - but do find it didn't work for what we needed/ and it takes more than one package to 2 do 2/3 doors -

Still rec. as Quality company -

I have had an incredible draft coming through my two back doors for years! Thought I would do a little DIY. Make sure you clean the area before applying. And only END the stripping in the corners of the doors. It works great! Waiting for winter.
