There is no rocket science behind this faucet cover. It does what is says. I bought it for our Upstate NY Winters and subfreezing temps. I have never used one before but was recommended to get one by our neighbor who wondered how we had survived the past 5 years without such a device. Since she piqued my interest I did a bit of research online and found this Duck Brand faucet cover. There is absolutely nothing fancy about this item and what you see is what you get. There is a ring attached the cord on the inside of the unit and this is geared to go around your outdoor faucet or spigot. Once you secure that ring you use the green tightener (pictured) to get a snug fit against the side of your house. Works like a charm.

The four stars has to do with the black foam construction around the outer edge. It seems flimsy for what it is and I am wondering if I can get more than one season out of this item? Time will tell. For the meantime, works like a charm and does what it says it should do.

The Duck brand cover is easy to apply to outdoor faucets, but may not be of robust, long term design. The styrofoam shell and rubber securing cord both will deteoriate over time. The neutral gray color works aesthetically, but a black exterior could help to absorb sunrays and heat better in frigid conditions. Will see after a couple of winters - it just may be justified by the inexpensive price. It beats the ugly bag of "peanut styrofoam" I used to wrap around the facucet held together by ten layers of duct tape to secure it to the fixture - and which did an excellent job of protecting from winter freezing. Duck brand is just easier and cleaner looking.

Prevented the pipe that joins the outdoor faucet to the laundry from freezing. It did its job. It's a bit trickier to attach than it first appears to be, and came off during a blizzard, which is how we KNOW that it prevented the pipe from freezing. A frozen pipe led us to check the connection and we found it in the snow about a foot from the house. Re-attached, no more frozen pipe.

This item works well but found it in local stores for less than 2 dollars. Easy to install, but will have to wait to see how it handles snow.

I ordered this faucet cover because there was NO availability locally to but them. I paid roughly $5 each for two of them. As luck would have it, our local National Big Box Discount Retailer based in AR got a shipment in and is selling the EXACT same Duck Brand Faucet Cover for $0.99. So, the only reason for not giving the item 5 stars is because I overpaid...

I bought two of these at a local big box/warehouse store today. The woman working in the hardware area said she had frozen pipes last year, thanks to an outside faucet and it cost her a goodly sum to get them fixed. She said the plumber told her to get these, and said my buying them reminded her to get some.

Oh by the way they were less than a dollar at the local Walmart...

This is a completely useless product. It is just a thermocol cover with a string. There is no easy means to snugly fit it to the tap. If you pull it a little hard to tighten it once it is fillled up the string separates and it cannot be used anymore.

I bought two of these a month ago to prepare for the cold weather. They are as described and as pictured and should do an adequate job of protecting our outdoor faucets. The reason I am giving this only 3 stars is I saw the same exact product (same name brand, design and all) at our local Wal-Mart last night for $1.50 each! That is 75% cheaper than what I paid for it.
