5.0 out of 5 stars Careful with the heat gun
I put this on a huge wall of single pane windows in my house. My gas bill dropped 25%, which is just what the computer model said it should. This stuff just works. It's not 100% crystal clear, but it's better than I would have imagined. I live in Southern California, and while we don't get the freezing temps that other parts of the country have, it's always nice to have a little more insulation.

I bought this to seal up an old, single paned sliding glass door. Out of the box, it doesn't seem like much: just a roll of double-sided tape, some alcohol wipes, and the film. As I started applying...

It's not 100% crystal clear, but it's better than I would have imagined. I found the tape needed some real pressing to get it to stick, but I don't want tape that is too strong, ripping the paint off when removing -- I like it.

I blew a hole in it with the heat gun. Learn from my mistake and do lots of light, fast passes with the heat gun. If you dwell in one place too long, you can melt the plastic.

All my windows are non-standard sizes. This over size patio length allows me to cut down to the size I need with out having to tape two of the standard size plastic together. I do wish Amazon had this in the warehouse earlier than NOV. I live in Chicago and needed the plastic by mid OCT. The price is much better than buying it at the hardware store. It works great to cut down on drafts.

As I started applying the tape, I noticed that it wasn't very tacky. I was a bit cautious as to whether or not it would hold up the film. The instructions say to heat up the tape as you're applying it to increase adhesive performance. I did that, and it helped to increase the tackiness a bit.

However, it starts going down hill from there.

After you stick the film to the tape, you have to use a blow dryer to stretch the film in order to get the wrinkles out. As I was doing that, the film pulled away from the adhesive. I had to keep re-sticking the film to get it to hold. Eventually, I got all the wrinkles out. After a few days, however, the film started to separate again due to the tension of the shrinking. I have to re-stick the film every so often to maintain the seal.

One thing I noticed about this product is that the film is not very clear; at least in some parts. Some parts of the film have this haziness to it that can't be removed. If you need to actually, you know, see through the windows, I suggest you look elsewhere.

I recommend that you go with the 3M/Scotch version of this product. The tape is much tackier and the film is crystal clear.

I didn't really see how this would possibly work, but we were cold and could feel the draft coming in through the window. After a painless installation process (we followed the instructions to a T), we're rather pleased with the results. The draft is definitely gone!

I purchased this film for my patio door. The film was easy to install, even without a blow dryer. I love it. I love the tape that came with it, it was much better and easier to use. I will use this film next year for my bedroom windows, as well.

We bought this for a large sliding glass window in our kitchen that is very drafty. As I was putting it on, I was starting to think that I had wasted $8, and it wasn't going to last 10 minutes or even stick well enough to stay installed. Boy was I wrong. The adhesive tape seems very weak when you first put it on, which enables you to reposition the film as needed. Once you get the film lined up, and run the hair driver over it, the adhesive gets stronger very quickly. The sliding door/window that we are using this on is so drafty that the film is slightly bowed in, from the pressure from the wind. Despite that much pressure on it, and the shear size of the film that we have in the single application, it is amazing that it stays in place so perfectly.

I am very impressed, and truly recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tape does not stick to film, November 7, 2010
This review is from: Duck Brand 1297119 84-by-120-Inch Shrink Film Patio Door Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
The tape supplied with this is pathetic.

It stuck to my window sill / frame ok, but would not stick to the film. I used a hair dryer to try and get the wrinkles out, and the whole thing just pulled off the tape. So I did another window with this. I stuck it up, and did not use the hair dryer hoping the plastic would stay up. Less than 6 hours later, the plastic had fallen off the top section of the tape.

I also tried the 3M tape, and that worked great. I used the 3M tape to finish off this plastic, and I will be ordering an extra roll or 2 of the 3M tape.

I guess the duck can't do it.

This shrink film works just like it's supposed to. It is an inexpensive plastic and doesn't look like hundreds of dollars worth of custom storm windows. It doesn't look too bad though and is very effective at creating a dead-air space at the window and keeping our rooms somewhat warmer on a cold winter day. I recommend this product very highly. Just keep in mind what it is.

I usally get this product every winter to do my windows and patio doors. This year I had to hunt very hard to find it and even had to order the patio door plastic on-line. After using this product this year I have found that the tape does not work very well this time. I have had to redo just about every window and patio door that I put it on this time. I was not pleased with the product this year at all. I hope you will let them know how bad this product is this time.

I've tried these things before and the plastic/tape won't stay stuck to the window. This works. Make sure you use the alcohol wipes first!!
