After reading the instructions completely and knowing I was not suppose to place this product on the painted surfaces or drywall, I must say it was the easiest and best solution to our problem!! I stuck the double stick tape directly to my aluminum frame all around the window. I used the blowdryer and got the film to a crystal clear state. Clean your windows inside first! The drafts coming through our bedroom windows are gone! I didn't have to get new window coverings to help with the drafts. The draft was the problem and now it is gone. My husband sleeps right next to the window and has thanked me every night.

Works fine. Only annoyance is that the tape does peel paint off painted wood frames, even newer paint, so be careful.

well. Like many others, I read a lot of the reviews on here and decided to take a chance since it was only $9.
So, I got $9 worth. If you are fairly smart about things then you should have no problems putting these things up on your windows.
I read a few people who had difficulty putting these up cause they unraveled the entire roll of plastic (length and height) then cut.

You should roll it out to the width of your window then pull the plastic apart to fit the window.
well, I followed the instructions with the tape and hair dryer. It stayed in place for about a week then the adhesive tape started to peel away from the windows.
I did clean the area with the provided alcohol pads first. It does block the cold draft I was getting for about a week. Then the adhesive tape started to come off.

My solution was to get some painter's tape and apply the tape on top of the plastic to keep them in place. it is unsightly but it does get the job done until the weather warms up.

so, for $9 I got what I paid for, I think I will try a different brand next year. Hope this helps somebody.

5.0 out of 5 stars a little bit of work but well worth it, December 14, 2009

i am a cheapskate. I saw the "other" 5-window kits for (at least) twice the cost of this one, and all i had to do to save $10 was cut the film myself!
Yes this kit takes a little more work and planning, but really, you're trying to save money in the first place so why pay twice the cost for pre-cut?
Another advantage to cutting it myself is that not all the windows in my house are 3x5's, the windows upstairs are bigger, the windows downstairs are smaller. Less product waste meant that i was also able to insulate the skinny windows on the sides of my door as well.
This is the second year I have used this exact product and it worked GREAT last year, i expect it will work just as well this year.
I have had no problems with the tape, it stuck to the film and window frame just fine (make sure the window frame is the proper temp to begin with, CANNOT be cold) and also run the hairdryer and your thumb (or whatever) over the tape AFTER sticking the film to it to give it better adhesion. They provide PLENTY of tape, even if you do screw up. The tape held firm all winter and most of the spring, and it peeled off easily and did not take any of the paint with it when i did finally remove it.
I gave this product 5-stars because it did exactly what it claims to do, and it did it well, 2 years running.

It took me about an hour to do several windows. There window panes were always cold to touch in the winter and the rooms were a little chilly. Immediately I feel more comfortable and the sheet does not feel cold, so I am sure I am saving energy. Very affordable and fool proof to apply. Applying a warm hair dryer makes the film shrink so that it stretches taut, so that any wrinkles disappear and you can barely see it. A truly useful product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read and heed the directions!, November 1, 2011

Am a 66 year-old male, live by myself, am not strong and am in poor health. Not fussing, just letting you know if I could do it, anyone can.

Have a 40 year old mobile home, no insulation top (roof), bottom, or side walls. It has single pane windows, and they are very cold and drafty in the winter.

Have purchased from Amazon many times, and have never had a fuss with them. Low prices, prompt shipping, and good product descriptions. In over ten years, have only had to return one item, and it was not an issue at all for Amazon. Yes, I pay for Prime shipping. No regrets at all.

Have ten windows in the home, so got two Duck 1299529 window shrink film kits, and a low cost Jerdon 1600 watt blow drier. (hair)

It took a pair of scissors, and the kits. Only took maybe 15-20 minutes per window (after the first one!), and three of them were 5X6 foot. Wiped the dust off the trim with a damp paper towel per window, dried, then used one of the four faces on each alcohol wipe for each side of the window trim.

Lift an inch or so of the tape off the roll, grab one end, and pull on one side until you hear/feel a soft pop, then the other side the same way. The pull the half inch of the tape until it pulls off. The double sided tape will be easy to separate now. Peel back the protective cover an inch or two, cut the half inch off of the messed up tape with your scissors, and and fold the cover crease) to one side ninety degrees. You can roll it out, press it down carefully, and leave the cover on until you apply the film. Cut the end at the end of the side (or top), and do the same for the other three. It will take just a couple of times, and you will know you're a "pro"!

Leave at least two or three inches of extra film on each side. I did the top first, then a side, then the other side, then the bottom.

With the 1600 watt drier, I installed the diffuser, and learned to hold it gently against the film (high setting). Move it back and forth, and have good light on it, and it will tighten up almost magically! Was really worried about melting the film, but had no trouble with that at all.

Trimmed the surplus film on the edges afterward.

A very good product, inexpensive, well described, and it is very effective. Cuts the drafts and heat losses like magic.

Yes, I put off doing this for years; just wasn't sure I could do it.

Thanks, Duck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not that difficult, huge difference in draftiness, January 29, 2011

This review is from: Duck Brand 1299529 Indoor 5-Window Shrink Film Kit, 62-by-210-Inch (Tools & Home Improvement)
I highly recommend you read the entire directions, and also the other reviews. By reading the very helpful reviews I was able to learn from people who have done this before. It was so worth the time. Speaking of time... that's really the main thing you want to dedicate to this cause - time. If you rush it, it will be unpleasant and not work well.

Get your hairdryer ahead of time. Clean and dry the areas to be sealed. If you are doing an old-fashioned door with a checkered=pattern window, like me... Measure/cut to leave enough extra to seal over the grille [cross pieces on the glass]. I just covered my windows on the front and back door that have the glass checker-board panes. I had to cut the tape into 12 pieces. With this type of application the tape had to go on the glass instead of the sill, because the sill is about 50 years old and if I rip off the paint, there is gonna be hell to pay. No worries. It worked on the glass and the draft stopped immediately.

There is an issue I can see, and it was mentioned by other reviewers... You may need to use more tape than provided because in some cases the tape gets touched and loses it's stickiness before you are ready to seal the plastic. No worries, just put another piece of tape and don't touch, put that plastic on fast and don't get too many finger-prints on everything as you try to size it. Fingerprint grease is obviously a glue destroyer. For that it's best to do one section of tape at a time. I've done four windows [counting the two doors as one window] so far and still have plenty of tape left.

For best adherence, use the dryer to warm the surface you are applying the tape to, especially if it's glass. Then use the dryer to warm up the tape just before you press the plastic onto it, but not too much or it will dry out. The good thing is that this isn't like saran wrap - if the plastic folds on itself it doesn't stick - hence the tape.

I also covered 3 regular, modern windows where I could put the tape directly on the clean sill. Worked great, piece of cake. As far as how much of this stuff there is... definitely enough for 5 windows. In my case I've used scraps on the back door - piecing two remnants from the other windows onto this one, since it's rarely viewed it doesn't need to be perfect. It turned out pretty good and that means you can make at least six window covers if you are willing to be creative.

One more thing if you do have very leaky windows like these old doors I'm talking about, you may see what I see... that is condensation pooling at the bottom of the plastic which is pulling the plastic away from the glass in those sections. The way I see it... That is condensation that would be in my house, I'm glad that cold water is in the plastic and not in my air. However that does mean that in order to keep the doors from getting more rickety than they already are I have to sop that water up from time to time... and perhaps replace the tape every so often. No worries.

The main thing is my heater goes on about half as much as before. I haven't got an electric bill since installing, but I don't think it's rocket science - that's got to translate to savings worth more than the $8 this kit costs. I will never go a winter without it again. Even if there was no cost savings, not having an uncomfortably drafty house is priceless.

My apartment uses plastic shrink film to coat our windows every winter. This is the first time we used the Duck brand... and probably the last. For several of our windows, the plastic pulled away from the double sided tape after a few weeks, creating freezing drafts. I've never had that problem with other brands.

Seems to work. Sticky tape didnt adhere very well to wood surfaces, but was easy to adjust in cases of mis-alignment. Overall was satisfied with product, although not ideal for older windows and frames.
