5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest "how to" book on the title subject ever written!
Duck hunters are a critical lot when it comes to reviewing books on the subject. Most primers on rigging duck decoys are either so basic that the knowledge gained is superceded by hunting experiences very rapidly. Coykendall's book is a timeless masterpiece. The techniques described are easy to understand for beginners, yet should be employed by master hunters...

2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated but a good history of the sport
Seriously needs an update. Talks about wooden decoys as the state-of-the-art and fails to note a number of advances we enjoy in the 1998. Would be a good resource for the beginner to get a few of the basics down like do not move in the blind and camoflauge is necessary.

Duck hunters are a critical lot when it comes to reviewing books on the subject. Most primers on rigging duck decoys are either so basic that the knowledge gained is superceded by hunting experiences very rapidly. Coykendall's book is a timeless masterpiece. The techniques described are easy to understand for beginners, yet should be employed by master hunters because they work well! The pen-in-ink illustrations are excellent and could be photocopied to take into the field. If you are a serious hunter over decoys, this is the book you must have! It was the first book I ever read on hunting, and I wish that I had a copy today after 35 years. It should be reprinted again and again!

This review is from: Duck Decoys: And How to Rig Them (Paperback)
Very good information on how to select, rig and
use decoys for the pursuit of waterfowl. Also
good information on blinds and how to use them.

Originaly composed by a hunter who spent his days with the market gunners of yesteryear.
Interesting depictions of how to rig decoys in a mirriad of situations.
A quick read for a wealth of knowledge.
GOOD HUNTING!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage excellence!, March 13, 2002
I have read this book twice. I will read it again and again over my waterfowling career if I could only get my copy back from my hunting buddy! If I do not, I will buy it again and chalk this up to not loaning favorite books out. There is a lot of great information in this book and each time you read it you get some additional nuggets. This book hales from the days when duck calling was not that popular especially in the northeast. A man's expertise with his decoys was what brought them in. The modern duck hunter can imagine the challenges if you did not call. Also, it has a great vintage flair to it and takes you back to when the gunning was different. Worth buying and buying in hard cover cause you will want to keep it!
