3.0 out of 5 stars Great shooting fun that doesn't work on new TVs August 28, 2012

Duck Hunt
Three Stars - Great shooting fun that doesn't work on new TVs

"Duck Hunt" is one of those games that people of my generation played at least once in their life. The game is simple. You shoot ducks. What was revolutionary at the time was you used a Zapper to do it. You simply aimed at the screen and shot. It was amazing. Nintendo [did this] beat everyone to the punch by releasing to the market a game that allowed unique and special ways to interface with the game through imaginitve controls a good twenty years before the motion controls of the Wii and the XBOX 360 Kinect, etc.

Not all "villains" are truly villains. Some characters are actually on your side but you still hate anyway. One such game features a dog that jumps into bushes to scare a duck out of the brush. It is your job to kill these animals. And if you miss, man's best friend, the dog, does something rather annoying. The manual states: "The hound comes out and laughs at you." So much for moral support.

The dog from "Duck Hunt" has become rather notorious in the gaming culture due to his constant laughter when you miss the ducks. More than one gamer wished you could shoot the dog in addition to the ducks. The dog makes a cameo in "Barker Bill's Trick Shooting", and you can shoot him there.

"Duck Hunt" frequently came prepackaged with the NES, along with "Super Mario Bros.", making it one of the most common carts available. I remember thinking how awesome it was that this one cart had TWO games on it that I could play back in the day.

Due to how newer televisions work, all NES games that use the Light Gun Zapper will not work on newer television sets, rending these games unplayable. "Duck Hunt" is a staggeringly small game, coming in at a mere 192 kilobytes.

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say? This game is a classic! April 4, 2014

Those of us who are old enough to remember, the NES came with a Mario Bros./Duck hunt game included with the console and controllers. Over time, the old cartridges can be lost or misplaced. Duck hunt is one of the few NES games that required the zapper gun. I highly recommend this game to anyone with an NES. If you're going to buy this game, also get a copy of Hogan's Alley. Happy gaming!
