5.0 out of 5 stars Great laugh out loud story!
There once was a duck named Max, an aspiring chef of soups. Previously, Max had made such culinary "concoctions" as Fish Soup with Curry and Pickled Lemon, Cracker Barrel Cheese and Marshmallow Soup, and Squash Gumbo.
One day, Max decided to make a masterpiece of soup, but discovers that he is missing an herb to bring his dish to perfection. While out in the...

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as Duck and Cover
It really depends on which book you read first, Duck and COver or Duck soup. I read Duck and Cover first. It is so good. Giving Duck and COver a high 5, I would the most give Duck Soup a low 3. The drawings are good and fun. And there are couple of laugh lines in there, like the hot chili soup, marshmallow soup, and the end of the book. However, compared to Duck and...

One day, Max decided to make a masterpiece of soup, but discovers that he is missing an herb to bring his dish to perfection. While out in the garden, Max's friends come by. While they discover and empty kitchen, they find a pot bubbling away on the stove. What follows can only be described as a hilarious and fun treat. With bright eye-catching illustrations and gloriously fun text, Duck Soup is sure to be a hit with young and old alike!

The drawings are good and fun. And there are couple of laugh lines in there, like the hot chili soup, marshmallow soup, and the end of the book. However, compared to Duck and Cover's sense of humor, this is far from it. But if your reading order is the other way, you probably will like both of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS & Fun to read, December 30, 2008

I was told about this book by a mom friend of mine and immediately checked it out of the library. My 3 year old LOVED IT!!! I loved it. We all loved it. Maxwell duck is a cook is making his best dish ever. He leaves to get an herb from the garden when his friends come in and once they look into the soup they think Max has fallen in so they proceed to pour the soup out trying to save Max. It's a really cute story. I can be very dramatic while reading it "OH NO MAX WE'LL SAVE YOU" etc. My daughter loves it when we read books like that. I absolutely recommend this book and may give it as a gift in a couple months. BUY IT.

I am a preschool teacher and I received this book as a gift for the classroom. The children really enjoyed the story. A very sweet story with wonderful illustrations. We did go back after the first read through to find the floating feather part, because the children were a bit confused as to why the animal friends thought the duck was in the soup. A worthwhile buy.

Hilarious! My son kept giggling throughout this book. He has a couple of the other "Max" books, and loves them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 4 year old son asks for this every night!!!!, July 9, 2011
This review is from: Duck Soup (Hardcover)
FYI, if you like classic Munch, such as Paperbag Princess, Mortimer or Good Families Don't, this will be right up your alley. Its expressive with exclamations that really engage small children. My son has a silly sense of humor and likes books that make him laugh out loud. This is just the book for him. After I read it the first few times and made up specific voices for each of the characters he started to pick it as one of his books for each night. He has only done this for a few books and this is the longest running. Its an easy read, not too short or long, even I have not gotten tired of it. I highly recommend it and most important, so does my 4 year old son. Grin.

4.0 out of 5 stars Duck Soup, February 4, 2011
This review is from: Duck Soup (Hardcover)
Duck Soup is a great book. Max the Duck was making his perfect soup, when he went out to the garden to get some herbs. While in the garden Brody, Dakota, and Bebe think Max fell into the soup and they try to get him out. It was a funny mess of them trying to find Max. The ending was very funny and something that could really happen at your own house. The author made stunning illustrations that made us feel happy and want to keep reading. This book kept us laughing outloud.

5.0 out of 5 stars mmmm - Good!, January 19, 2010
This review is from: Duck Soup (Hardcover)
Right away we are introduced to the main character, Max the duck. He begins cooking this amazing soup because he has cooked many other delicious soups before. Maxwell Duck feels something is not quite right with his new creation. Having previously sipped a sample while stirring his soup, he decides a very necessary herb is needed from his garden to make his soup perfect!

Later on towards the middle of the book, we are introduced to several more characters who are Max's pals. There's Brody the dog and Dakota cat. The story line moves along and the plot thickens... almost literally! You see, those two pals now believe their friend Max fell in the soup! While they grab the ___ well, you've just got to check out this one and read it to the very end. It's really a very good story and a funny one at that! ***** stars!
