Frequent favorite guest Ken Berry is in the first show. It can't be all bad if they kick it off with a Wiggins/Tudball sketch (watching Carol struggling on the floor during a fire drill with that impossibly tight black skirt has to be seen to be believed!). Their traditional big production at the end is a spoof of "Babes In Arms" (re-titled "Babes In Barns" here). A "gee-gang-let's-put-on-a-show" MGM musical, it has Berry playing the energetic Mickey Rooney role & Carol stealing the show warbling songs exactly in the Judy Garland style.
Living Kewpie Doll Bernadette Peters & Tim Conway (as the other guest--he wasn't a regular yet) appear with Carol in another chapter of the soap spoof "As The Stomach Turns", this time with an "Exorcist"-inspired plot. There's some inspired clowning between Conway & Harvey Korman in a WWII Japanese submarine sketch. The musical finale is typically lavish & amusing. But unless you're a fan of 1930's songwriters, you might find it boring. In conclusion, it's an OK--if not great--offering.

Volume 6 for Carol Burnett TV Show,

I've been collecting this dvd series for awhile now, and this one is very good. Although the Ken Berry episode was not one of my favorites, I really enjoyed the Bernadette Peters episode. She's one funny lady and the skits with her & Carol are great! Worth checking out, along with many of the other volumes for this great TV Show!

I was so excited to get this single dvd as a sample of a collection I could not afford to buy. Sadly, I was disappointed. I guess the Carol Burnett Show is not as funny as I remembered it.
Granted, I bought this particular episode because it was the cheapest, so apparently it is not among the very best for its comedic value. I have noticed that those with the most memorable skits are the most expensive, so I guess everyone knows which dvds are most popular and which aren't. As the rest of the dvds are cost-prohibitive, I'll just enjoy remembering the show rather than purchase any more dvds from this collection.
