Ducks Don't Get Wet,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ducks Don't Get Wet (Paperback)
This is a good book about ducks. It tells about how ducks are waterproof and it has an experiment on how it works. It tells how far they can dive and what they eat. It tells how far the can fly and which ones migrate and which ones don't.

I found this in an older, hardback book at a used curriculum sale. I got it for a buck. It looked pretty good as I skimmed thru it, and so home with me it came.
What's inside it (and another LR & FO book I got that day) is what hooked us on this series. The illustrations in my book are different (being an older edition), but the content is the same. That content is thick with information about ducks - why they don't get wet, of course, but also 1) preening habits, 2) presents a number of species of ducks, 3) delves into the food preferences for each of those ducks, 4) diving abilities of ducks, and finally, 5) their migration, and why they do so each year. Additionally, there is an experiment (love the hands-on stuff!) to show the 'why' behind why ducks don't get wet. I whole-heartedly recommend "Why Ducks Don't Get Wet", and most of the other LR&FO Science Stage 1 Science Books. So much so that this has become what we've chosen for our kindergarten science curriculum, and what we plan on utilizing next year and the year after, with the Stage 2 books :) |
