Book Description

7 and up2 and upClassic Children's Story

Quackery knew he was different. He wasn't rebellious like his brother Zackery, and he definitely wasn't pretty like his sister Fluff. But he knew deep inside him that he must swim faster, dive deeper, and be smarter than any other duckling in his family. But there was so much to learn how could he ever know it all? There was so much to see and so many places to go, he figured he'd better get started right away.

Enjoy this heartwarming story of the adventures and misadventures of Quackery the duckling from Janette Oke.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but a couple of concerns, February 9, 2011
I bought a few of the books in this series for my 6 year old to read on a long trip. While I like that the story teaches some good lessons, including being honest and obeying one's parents, I did not like that there was name calling (sissy, mama's boy, etc.) I thought this would be one series I wouldn't have to be concerned with giving him to read himself. I was wrong. It may not be a big deal to all parents but we try to give our children positive, wholesome things to read when they are reading on their own and save books that have topics we need to address or discuss with them for reading out loud as a family. I wish the author would have left that out. It didn't enhance the story at all and could have made the same points without it. Other than that, the story was cute and kept my son's interest. The chapters are very short - much too short for a read aloud but good for a child who is ready to start chapter books on their own. While the story doesn't mention God, that I remember, it does teach values.

Janette Oke's books are wonderful because they are nice stories and they teach children at the same time. The animal characters seem to come to life in this series. I read this one out loud to my children many years ago. So, it was fun to find it for my grandchildren too!
