5.0 out of 5 stars classic punk rock album, August 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Duct Tape Soup (Audio CD)
Before he was in "15" Jeff Ott fronted the incredible, blistering punk rock band "Chrimpshrine." Most amazing is that these songs were written and recorded when the bandmembers were teenagers. Nobody has come along as far as I'm concerned and shown a pair of vocal pipes like Ott had. These songs are moaned, screamed and delivered with such intensity and rawness, it's mindblowing. It's suprising these guys were so young when this material was recorded. This is one of the best Lookout! records ever released and it's a complete original. It's very intensive, raw and edgy but it rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic east bay punk, August 7, 1998
By A Customer

This is a classic cd you should definitly listen to. Crimpshrine is the inspiration for many awesome punk bands such as Operation Ivy. They sound kind of like an angrier OpIvy without the ska element.. It takes a little while to get used to the hoarse vocals and harsh sound, but you will eventually grow to love them. Also, the drummer is somewhat fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most "substance" records ever!, July 17, 2005
By
This review is from: Duct Tape Soup (Audio CD)
This record is not for someone who is into commercialized music like REM or even OFFSPRING. For those of us who like to question who we are and the world around us, this is the record of choice. How could one say that this band has no direction. Just listen to the songs "Construction" or "Wake Up." If someone doesn't understand the lyrics then how can they knock it.
One of the best "punk" bands ever which also spawned the even more social minded band "FIFTEEN". You should look into them. Vocalist Jeff Ott and his message for simple life with less pollution and violence has reached so many people because of these 2 bands. They're a little rough around the edges but the great percussions and catchy riffs make up for the "harsh" sound.
Crimpshrine helped give birth to the legendary "East Bay" sound along with other bands such as "GREENDAY", "CRINGER", and most notably "ORERATION IVY" which of whom was the pioneer who fused punk and ska to form a fresh sound that can still be heard in many contemporary bands.
Crimpshrine will never be known for being a " no direction" band. If anyone does think that then go find a lyric sheet for help because you'd be blown away by how much substance and meaning they exume in their music.
