Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) represents at least 15 per cent of all new breast cancer cases and up to 40-50 per cent in centres that rely on mammography. This work includes contributions from leading authorities in DCIS and aims to provide a multidisciplinary perspective required for optimum diagnosis and treatment. The book covers the essential basic science, including epidemiology, molecular biology and cytogenetics. An entire section is devoted to detection and diagnosis, with an emphasis on the vital role of mammography. Another section provides a full discussion for pathologists with 11 chapters that review current procedures, promising studies, and techniques for predicting local recurrences. Following recent focus on DCIS, a number of treatment controversies have emerged; this edition discusses these in full in order to reflect different options and viewpoints.
