4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I love Hair, and this a wonderful addition to a Hair fan's album collection. This album- "Dude" was written by one of Hair's writers and Hair's composer. This album contains a wide mix of music varieties- country, blues, folk, rock, fol-rock, 70's reggae, R&B, jazz, pop. It is horrible that "Dude" flopped, and is barely remembered. If you've know HAIR (a musical show that I loved once I saw the British production back in 1971), you'll feel you're back at the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. If you've know HAIR (a musical show that I loved once I saw the British production back in 1971), you'll feel you're back at the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. No need to guess that these are the same composers of that mythical musical. With a few catchy songs and most of them forgetable, DUDE reminds you of the tribal tunes of that 1967 cult play. It will seem to you that, unexpectedly, you're walking in space with prisoners of Niggertown letting the sunshine in. However, from DUDE you may rescue the impressive instrumental opening theme "The Highway Life: Going", with trumpets as you've never heard them before. Actually, that overture is worth the whole C.D. The cover is very poor: just the front cover with a poor design and some skinny information that says almost nothing about the play and the production. Despite all, I would recommend it to Broadway followers and HAIR fans. By the way, about the time HAIR was published in Vinyl format, there was a sort of bonus-track album, DISINHAIRITED, published by RCA Victor, containing additional songs by the same authors that were not in the theatre production. If you own that, get this one as well: you'll then have the whole Ragni-Rado trilogy.
