5.0 out of 5 stars Still sets the bar after all these years
It's been almost ten years now since Blink 182 released Dude Ranch (oh God, I'm getting old!) , and yet it still sets the bar for what a pop-punk album should sound like. While "Enema of the State" may have sold more albums and truly made Blink 182 a household name, many people were introduced to Blink 182 via the radio single "Dammit (Growing Up)". 3.0 out of 5 stars I Liked Enema Of The State Better
I liked this cd. It was pretty good. It's a little heavier then Enema Of The State and less disgusting. I'd buy it if you like metal or punk but not if you think it's like Enema Of The State. Enema Of The State is softer and is more pop influenced. This one is good and heavy but I think I like Enema Of The State better. The best songs are Dammit, Josie, and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Still sets the bar after all these years, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
It's been almost ten years now since Blink 182 released Dude Ranch (oh God, I'm getting old!) , and yet it still sets the bar for what a pop-punk album should sound like. While "Enema of the State" may have sold more albums and truly made Blink 182 a household name, many people were introduced to Blink 182 via the radio single "Dammit (Growing Up)". While many simply placed the cd back on their shelves after they played that song out, many others discovered that they were quickly falling in love with Mark, Tom and Scott and the rest of the "punk" rock movement of the late 90's. While I'm sure Tom Delonge's voice was an awful shock to many who purchased Dude Ranch after hearing "Dammit", older fans as well as new recruits were addicted. Dude Ranch starts off with the best formula Blink had to offer; Mark and Tom trading off vocals over a fast punk rock beat. If "Pathetic" didn't/doesn't do it for you, you should probably put down the cd. However if you find it hard to wipe the smile off your face, you'll find out that the rest of the album is truly a punk rock classic. "D*ckips", "Apple Shampoo", "Emo", "A New Hope" and "Josie" (which had some small success as the follow up to Dammit)are my favorites, but their are really no bad songs on Dude Ranch (although I don't usually listen to "I'm Sorry" anymore). This is the last time Blink 182 would sound this way for an entire album. Scott Raynor would leave the band and be replaced by the more talented Travis Barker, but whose drumming is truthfully less "punk rock" than Scott's was. Tom's vocals would become overproduced, and Mark's catchy little bass solo's would become almost non-existent. I'm not sure how this album comes or will come across to those who discovered Blink later in the band's career, but I can speak for all of the older fans when I say that Dude Ranch is a true classic, that can never be replicated or replaced. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Enter: Blink 182, January 2, 2000

This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
This is Blink 182's second best album (to Chesire Cat), and it is when they first begin to get recognized. This cd still has the little crack in's which were featured in Chesire Cat, such as at the end of "Boring," "Untitled," and "I'm Sorry." The band's singles: Dammit, and Josie, are very good, but there are better songs on the cd. The language is borderline, but hey, thats what makes some of it funny! This cd is very good, if you have "Enema Of The State" and especially like "Dumpweed" and "Dysentary Gary" you will love this cd. This is pretty much a must in every music lovers collection, and if you are looking for not-quite-hardcore punk you will love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Review, December 10, 1999

This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
If I had to pick my favorite Blink CD, this one would be it. It includes songs that make you think about life and songs that make you want to laugh.I can listen to this CD five times over and not get bored. Pathetic is my favorite song on here, but some others are great, too.

Of course, not all the tracks are terrific. There are one or two thrown in there that don't sound to great (too much music and not enough vocals) and can kind of drag it down near the middle, but it picks up in no time. The 'skits' are hilarious.

I found this album much better than Enema of the State because it seems to show what the band's REALLY about. In EOTS it seems like they're aiming for either TRL (MTV), a younger audience, or both. Some songs on that CD are good, but just don't live up to Dude Ranch.

This was the first Blink CD I bought. If you've just heard about Blink 182 and want to buy your first Blink CD, I strongly suggest this one over Cheshire Cat and EOTS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dude Ranch is the best Blink-182 CD ever!, December 2, 1999
This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
Dude Ranch is a great album. Every song is really good once you listen to them all. This album is better than Enema of the State, because this one has a lot of meaning with growing up and relationships. My favorites are "Untitled," "Emo," "Pathetic," "Apple Shampoo," and "I'm Sorry." Though, I don't like "Voyeur" and "Degenerate" because they are supposed to be funny, but I think thses songs cut away from the band's credibility. Most people think Blink-182 is just some white punk band that makes funny videos, but pick this album up and you'll discover Blink-182 is a great band with a lot of meaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Album, March 25, 2006
This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
I often hear people say this is blink's best album. I don't really know what I think blink's best album is, but I can see where those people are coming from. This CD is truly AMAZING. From the very first chord of Pathetic, this CD is a fast-paced, energetic pop-punk thrill ride all the way. You really never get a chance to breathe when it comes to this album, but that's what makes it great.

1.Pathetic - Another great intro song from blink. Sounds awesome with the trade off of lines between Mark and Tom. One of the best on the CD - 10/10
2.Voyeur - Tom's voice sounds really whiny at the beginning, but once the song gets going, it totally kicks ass. Tom and Mark's rather rough voices suit the song well. - 9/10
3.Dammit - Of course, one of the best blink songs EVER. Such a cool riff at the beginning, and the memorable line "Well, I guess this is growing up" - 10/10
4.Boring - People seem to think this song is boring (Well, look at the title geniuses), but I disagree. Really fast paced, really cool. - 8.5/10
5.Dick Lips - The BEST song on the album. When I heard this song, I just became addicted to it. Crazyily awesome song about when Tom got kicked out of high school for drinking. A song alot of teenagers can relate too in some way. - 10/10
6.Waggy - A really kick ass song. It's almost serious (ALMOST). About relationships, particularly when they start falling apart. Really great guitar riff once again. - 9/10
7.Enthused - One of my favourite blink guitar riffs. The lyrics aren't all that impressive, and this is probably my least favourite song, but it is still good. - 8/10
8.Untitled - Another AWESOME song, one of the best on the CD. Probably something to do with relationships again, but I don't really care. This song is killer. - 10/10
9.Apple Shampoo - Another AMAZING song. Mark's favourite on the album (interesting fact) with really cool, sincere lyrics. - 9.5/10
10.Emo - A song that sounds sort of like emo rock music, hence the title. Another song about girls and relationships (sweet) with a great guitar riff. I love at the end where Mark says "She's better off sleeping on the floor" followed by Tom's "because she fell right off the bed". Killer - 9.5/10
11.Josie - Another CRAZY song (like I said this album never slows down). A really fast song that makes you want to jump around or run or something. Just really energetic, one of the best on the CD - 10/10
12.A New Hope - A sort of Star Wars spoof. Once again, really energetic, really fast paced with pretty funny lyrics. - 8.5/10
13.Degenerate - Alot of people I know don't care for this song, but I really, REALLY dig it. It starts out kind of slow, then sort of explodes with the awesome chorus and then a really rad guitar riff. - 9.5/10
14.Lemmings - Really awesome song, not only because of the high energy and fast tune, but because of what it's about. The song is about a person who wants everyone to do what they want and listen to them, and Mark sings how people like that aren't true friends (or something like that) - 9.5/10
15.I'm Sorry - A good close to the album. The song has a sort of serious side to it (kind of) with really good lyrics by Tom. Really funny end after the song is finished. - 8/10

5.0 out of 5 stars why can't good music be called good music?, August 10, 2004
By
This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
Why does it seem that all the "real punks" are the most snobby, uninclusive group of people on the face of the planet. According to them, there are only 5 good bands out there (most likely the 5 most obscure bands in rock music history) and anything that GOD FORBID is CATCHY is instantly written of as "sellout pop-punk". I don't recall ever hearing this band claim to be "hardcore punk", so why would you judge it as so. And I hate to burst your "I'm an individual" little bubbles, but there is a reason that this "pop-punk" is so popular. IT SOUNDS GOOD!! IT'S GOT UNDENIABLE HOOKS!! IT'S GOT LYRICS THAT AVERAGE PEOPLE CAN RELATE TO!! I listen to Operation Ivy and Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys too, and guess what? I like this better! This album is great from start to finish, with good songs about whatever the band wanted them to be about. I will say that Blink's later work hasn't ever lived up to this record, but at least they hit a home run once. Instead of being musical fascists, we should open our minds and not instantly rule out something because someone else likes it. That's the most un-punk attitude I can think of. Buy this CD if you are a fan of catchy hard rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONe OF ThE BeST Cd's EVeR, April 18, 2003

This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
I cant even put into words how awesome dude ranch is. I mean, i wish that scott didnt leave so they could of transformed this sound into enema. This is easily blink's last great album and you will be hooked for a very very long time. Standout out tracks : Pathetic, Waggy, Enthused,Apple Shampoo,Emo, Josie,Lemmings and A new hope. Dont be fooled by just buying this cd for dammit , dammit is probaply the worst song on this cd if you were compare them with the standard and awesomeness of the other 14 tracks. A must buy for anyone.

Best of luck with Grimby scott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's The Explanation, December 25, 1999
By
This review is from: Dude Ranch (Audio CD)
Okay, firstly i have 3 of the 4 Blink 182 albums, Cheshire, Dude Ranch, and Enema Of The State. As the years have gone by blink has bcome less and less punky and more commercial, although this is not neccessarily a bad thing. The album Enema Of The state is a truly great album, clever and meaningful lyrics combined with the brilliant drum beats and guitars. If you prefer a more energetic, fast and loud album then Dude Ranch is more your thing. Cheshire Cat is even punkier still, much less POP compared to Enema. Although all these albums are so different, i would still give every album 5/5
