Michael Moore knows how to raise a chuckle while also making keenly serious points. In this fast-reading 2004 book, Moore takes on President George W. Bush and his connections with the Saudi's, oil money, Osama Bin Laden, and big corporations. As Moore shows, President Bush's actions prior to and after 9/11 ranged from dishonest to questionable to outright impeachable. Few Presidents have used fear as a tactic for political advantage as has Bush. Moore also goes after large corporations and their political connections (and donations), and he refuses to ignore the faults of Democrats and other more liberally-leaning opponents. As Moore shows, we ordinary U.S. citizens have been hoodwinked more than once by morally bankrupt leaders and too many craven political opponents who fail to stand up and be counted. How else can we explain such disasters as Enron, the Iraq Invasion, and the secretive Bush/Cheney axis? I enjoy Michael Moore's fast-reading style and accept that he's something of a propagandist, but sometimes he goes too far (particularly in his anti-corporate accusations). Still, Moore makes many important points that most others ignore. This book is both dated and similar to Moore's film Fahrenheit 911, but it remains worth a look.
