Awesome like a possum!,
By RMadd (Springfield, MO USA) - See all my reviews

This is easily among my more favorite CD's I've purchased in recent months (and I've bought quite a few). These guys can rock out like very few other bands can these days. Guitarist Eric Friedman is flippin' amazing! I've seen these guys live once and they absolutely rocked the house, even if very few people there had heard of 'em. So if you like other Post-Grunge artists on Wind-Up (Creed, Alter Bridge, Edgewater, etc.) you'll absolutely love Submersed. And since it was co-produced by Mark Tremonti (guitarist, formerly of Creed, now of Alter Bridge), you know it's gotta rock!

The most satisfying CD I've bought in a while,
By
This review is from: In Due Time (Audio CD)
I discovered this group through Amazon's similar interests linking. After downloading a couple of songs to sample, I liked what I heard enough to buy the CD. I enjoyed it a lot after I picked it up in early December of 2004; it seemed solid from start to finish, though it took a few listens for all of the tracks to really grow on me. And it's done just that; I've turned away from none of the tracks; this is an album I truly enjoy from start to finish, and I appreciate it a lot.
Musically, Submersed has a really unique sound about them; I'm really not sure how to describe it, but one should be able to understand it upon hearing some of their music. Their vocalist and lyricist, Donald Carpenter, also provides unique material with his wide vocal range and lyrics that are actually thought provoking. Check out the band info on the official site (http://www.submersed.com/) for info on Donald's background and how it affects his writings. Here I will try to describe each track: 1. "Hollow": The first single is also the opener for the album. Containing a contrast of gentle music and raging guitars, as well as showing off most of Donald Carpenter's wide range, this track does a great job of demonstrating the various feel of the music on the rest of the album. 2. "To Peace": Starts heavy and stays that way. Though there's nothing inherently wrong with it and it is quite enjoyable, this track never has grabbed me as one to stand out from the rest of the album; it just fits in. 3. "In Due Time": Title track for the album, and well worth it, I'd say. This one's another all-heavy track. I find the flow to be particularly enjoyable. 4. "Dripping": After two tracks of almost solid guitars, things get a little mellower here. The track begins with some distant thunder, and then kicks in with the guitars after the first verse. The title of this track confuses me; the only relevance I find is the storm and rain sounds. 5. "Flicker": One of the longer tracks on the album. Another one to start slow, its structure seems somewhat like that of "Dripping", but without getting repetitive; it certainly maintains its own distinct sound. This one ends heavy, which is a trait I like in slow, long songs. 6. "Parallelism": The most commonly misspelled track on the album. Perhaps the most notable feature of this song is the effective manner in which Donald Carpenter's falsetto voice is integrated with the chorus. 7. "Deny Me": Possibly my favorite song from the album; I was disappointed by it at first because I'd downloaded an older incarnation that I liked better. However, I've come to appreciate them both for different reasons. This version offers some of the most stellar guitar work on the album. 8. "You Run": This track is both lyrically confusing and inspiring. Has another brief showing of Donald Carpenter's falsetto voice. 9. "Divide the Hate": Track 9 of 11 of the album; according to Submersed's site, this song's lyrics were written in light of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. I'm not really sure what to say about it other than it's a fairly heavy song. 10. "Piano Song": This could use a better name; beyond the first few seconds, I hear no piano at all. I find it to be the least interesting song on the album, but it's still great music. 11. "Unconcerned": Tying "Flicker" for the longest track on the album, this one's fairly mellow overall. Offering a sense of conclusion, this makes an excellent and satisfying ending for the album. With this satisfying debut, Submersed truly establishes a unique sound that is sure to please anybody who's looking for hard music with intelligent lyrics. I strongly recommend this album, and I'm eagerly awaiting their next.

Best Stuff I have Heard in Awhile,
By AgentBook (Orlando, Fl) - See all my reviews

Submersed is rocking, its rare to find a band that actually has some talent, and a good vocalist these days among most of the crap that is churned out by record companies and repeated on radio stations.
Submersed is a breath of fresh air, just good old fashioned rock, which is hard to come by today. It is even more rare to find a band that has more than one good song on the CD, start to finish this is an excellent CD, you wont be dissapointed. Other bands should take note, this is what we want to hear, not that melodic emo crap that is churning the airwaves.

Wind-up records(Creed, Evanescence, Seether) does it again! This is a completely solid record all the way through. I wouldn't expect anything less from wind-up. Solid vocals with fill-ins at just the right time, solid guitar playing ability with some solos, hard enough to get your head bouncing, peaceful enough to make your mind wonder. Buy this and every other band under the wind-up label.

An amazing album; an amazing voice,

I'll admit to saying that I loved this album immediately. The hit single "Hollow" intrigued me when I saw it on TV and heard it on the radio, so I checked it out at my library- a few months later, I recieved the album (looong waiting list!), to my delight. I was not disappointed- with a slightly old-style feel to the music, this band enters into the music scene with an amazing first album. The lyrics range from simple to more complex, and are definitely intriguing enough to listen to (along with the stories behind each one). The music is dark, deep, bright, great solid rock, starkly intense and unapologetic.
And Donald Carpenter's voice is AMAZING- I love the range of what he can sing! Beautiful higher notes, great vabrato; there's so much strength to his voice- it's half the reason I listen to this band and know so many of the lyrics already. The highlights of the album would have to be the obvious "Hollow", "I Due Time", "Flicker", and "Divide the Hate". This would be an almost-perfect album if it weren't for the fact that all of the songs are fairly simple tunes and tend to sound similar. However, one can only assume that the band will undoubtably grow out of this as they have the chance to spread their wings and see what they decide to make of their second album- which I will wait for with much anticipation. So happy to have found this band. Hoping to see more of them soon!! ;)

In Due Time... all good things happen,

After several delays and setbacks, lineup changes, re-writes and re-records, Submersed is finally out of the gate with their debut record, aptly titled In Due Time. DC, Erock, TJ, Kelan, and Garrett storm out of the gates with the album's opening track (and first single), Hollow, and never look back. The band's introspective lyrics on songs such as Parallelism, Divide The Hate, and To Peace aim to preach a message of peace and unity, something that has been sorely lacking in the muck of the "modern rock" genre in recent years. Musically, this album runs the gamut from heavy crunching guitars (title track In Due Time, You Run) to slower melodic songs (Dripping, Flicker, Unconcerned).
If you're tired of the "woe is me" BS of today's rockers, Submersed's In Due Time is an album worthy of your time. It may be hard to find in stores, but can be purchased online at the band's website, www.submersed.com - also available there are song previews, other merchandise, and much much more. For a glimpse into the personal side of the band members, read their interview with the IBleedPurple Music Network by visiting www.ibpmusic.net . "When I reach out for a hand to pull me through the storm, pull me through the norm, I reach for you." And I reach for Submersed.

Awesome Band, Amazing Debut CD,
By
This review is from: In Due Time (Audio CD)
This is by far the most surprising CD I have ever bought. I really didn't know who the band was, but I had heard the single "Hollow", and liked it because it was an aggressive but melodic rock song. But the greatness of "Hollow" was just a sampler for the rest of the CD. When I first played it, I was blown away by their sound, and I could not find one bad moment on the whole CD. Their range of songs is incredible, from the smooth and deep "Flicker" to the aggressive "Divide the Hate", Submersed shows a rare quality in being able to cover both ends of the rock spectrum without forfeiting a distinctive sound. The vocalist is amazing, making every song powerful and melodic, and the guitar solos are some of the best I have heard in a long time. This being their debut album, one can only expect great things from the emerging rock power of Submersed.

yes his voice is not the usuall you would hear for this type of music but i love his voice and the tone pitches fit the music flawlessly. If your looking for a rock album that is not the usuall mainstream BS then this is for you. If you liked Hollow you will like the rest of the album.

Great debut album,
This review is from: In Due Time (Audio CD)
Before you look at the five star rating and figure it's just another gushing fan too excited to rate the album objectively, realize it's hard for an album to get such high regard from me. Ok, so maybe I haven't reviewed much yet and those I have did well but I'm just rating my favorites right now.
Anyhow, this debut CD from Submersed is among my favorite debut releases. There's really something for every rock fan in this CD. The lead singer, Donald Carpenter, powerfully sings these thought provoking lyrics and adds a unique touch now and then to hit the high note. It's comforting to find lyrics that aren't all about doom and gloom or our political system as well. Another plus for the album is the band knows how and when to use guitar solos. Particularly near the end of Flicker and on their following track, Paralellism, the solo sent chills down my spine. Everything seems to flow from track to track and the reason I give it a 5 star rating is there's not one track I dislike or skip. One of my favorite tracks, Dividing the Hate, is different from the rest. It's probably the hardest track and at one point when Donald is screaming I see a lot of potential from him. If you like most of Wind-Up Records other bands or are a general rock fan you should buy this album as soon as possible.
