3.0 out of 5 stars "PLUS I GOT MORE HOES THAN A THUNDERCAT... HOOOO!" August 8, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Deuces Wild marks the return of Vast Aire as a solo MC, bringing with him his patented voice, delivery, and rhymes that run the gamut of esoteric ("chill out hero, I move my blade like Beatrix Kiddo"), to dumb ("my flows cold like a Saint Bernard"), to skilled (don't mess with the spider 'cause you think you're fly), to flat out "what the F that mean ("that wouldn't be cool if you called my name, 'cause you be soft like video games")?!" One thing that's hard to argue though, is when a cat has this much going on in a verse it's hard to get bored with his brand of wordplay (at least for a few listens). As far as the album goes, this is a step up from his last solo effort Look Mom... No Hands, yet still suffers some from the typical feel of the material he's released since taking a leave from fellow MC Vordul Mega and their group Cannibal Ox (with producer El-P), it's spotty; filled with some definite moments but still lacking greatness as a whole. That said, this is the best stuff I've heard from him since The Cold Vein. The album starts off strong right out the gate with the track "You Know (You Like It)" with Vast agressively spitting lines like...

"Okay let's seperate the blues from the pink,
I can break it down from A to zinc,
I can snatch your girl with just one wink,
I think fat boy's got game,
don't you think?"

... over an ambiant track with a bassy synthesizer tearing back and forth throughout. In fact, the production here is the main difference that this album has with Vast's recent work... it screams, "Yeah, I'm not El-P but I'm gonna try my best to emulate him!" And by now I think we can all agree that it's the sound that works best with his style. Other notable high points are the posse cut "When Starz Fall" (featuring Double A.B.

For 'Dueces Wild,' Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox can't be knocked, or heavily vaunted for that matter. He keeps his good reputation, not botching anything but also not exceeding expectations. This is just a good album with plenty more style from Vast Aire. In his steady, careful flow, he executes some typical bragging and belittling, which are of course traditional to classic, old school rap. The album has a very New York feel. The rough and rugged beats coupled with Vast Aire's emphasis on lyrics in his Eastern US accent give 'Dueces Wild' a vibe very characteristic to that coast. And it should feel this way. Vast Aire is from and represents NY. He also inserts lots of popular culture/comic book imagery into his metaphors and similes, upping the ante on this project, making it interesting. 'Dueces Wild' may not have a clearly defined mission, but it's filled with great style and good lyrics.

5.0 out of 5 stars The other reviewers were smoking crack May 2, 2014

Format:Audio CD
Only 3 reviews at the time of me writing this so take that with a grain of salt on the low rating. Check out the samples, this album is fire. Production is tight and Vast is lyrically on point. I like Vordal but some times Vast's style deserves to stand on it's own and it does here. Cold Vein is a great album but I like this one more both for the depth of the lyrics and for the instrumentals. On this album Vast takes a chance and makes a few tracks aimed at his experiences with females. And he does a great job. Check out "The Crush" if you need some proof.

Sample Lines:
"I unplug cyborgs when they A.I talk back"
"I swing my sword like Beatrix Kiddo"
"I can disappear when I click my shoes"
"My chemical romance is weed and booze"
"Bring your army, bring mad troops, I'll just open my suit in the phone booth"

5.0 out of 5 stars Vast Aire classic! April 10, 2012

Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have been listening to Vast Aire since he was spitting with Vordul Mega as Cannibal Ox. Over the years Vast has dropped several albums. And if your reading reviews on VA, then I know you already know he's a ill dude. This album is solid! It has 13 tracks, and has production from various great producers. If you like The Cold Vein,Look Mom No Hands,ect...than you'll love this album more than likely. Vast is a real dude, and crazy down to Earth. I personally know Vast Aire somewhat, and he speaks what he lives & knows. Make sure you pick up his latest CD. And also please check out his appearance on my upcoming CD's title track, titled:Die By The Pen. I produced the track aswell. And it features a upcoming emcee Ed Rowe. you can check it out on youtube. My profile is REZIVORsince93.
The homie C-Rayz Walz is also on a track too! peace

Well I tell you the more I hear it the more I would like to whole heartedly agree but I still look for that unspoken word/lyric or sound. I always expect it from an underground artist such as Vast Aire, I mean his name alone speaks volumes. However, th
