This is the movie that started it all. A great film, wonderfully shot, with real chemistry among the cast. Ioan Gruffud is wonderful (and gorgeous!) as Hornblower, and Robert Lindsay plays off Gruffud's character perfectly. Great battles, great subplots (Mr. Simpson is chilling and frightening). Though the plot deviates from the Forester book, I think it is much more satisfying and much better resolved. This is probably my favorite of the Hornblower saga. A must for anyone who loves sea stories (or Ioan!).
