Ali Akbar Khan and L Subramaniam prove why they are both absolute masters of their craft. L.Subramaniam's other attempts at East /West fusion have often produced very mixed results. This North/South fusion though works incredibly well and is one of the few Carnatic/Hindustani instrumental Jugalbandi's available in the market. A brilliant disc from start to finish and a marvelous treatment of the raga Sindhu Bhairavi by both masters will get you in the mood for a perfect Saturday morning. This one is a delight for purists of both Hindustani and Carnatic music as well as for those (such as myself) who enjoy a fusion of the two. A similar Carnatic Violin/ Hindustani Sarod Jugalbandi by Lalgudi Jayaraman and Amjad Ali Khan (different Raga though) is unfortunately out of print. The 2 instruments mesh very well and it is quite surprising to see so few of these around. (Even this one is hard to find).

The production is excellent and this one is highly recommended for all lovers of Indian Classical music.

This is a rare oppotunity to hear two masters, one North Indian, the other South Indian, perform together live. The two musicians play as if they have always been together. The raga is approached quite seriously with a brief alap and then a vilambit gat which explores every nuance of Shindhu Bhairavi. The drut gat gives these two masters a chance to show their technical virtousity. A recording you will go back to again and again.

this CD is well worth listening to w/ Maestros Subramaniam & Kahn & Zakir Hussain playing master-fully & recorded Live a few years ago... not the best recording quality BUT the playing is first rate & very inspiring... if you enjoy the original Shakti CDs; you should enjoy this one...
