If you want to watch only one episode of DS9,
By
This review is from: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
Easily one of the best episodes of DS9. Certainly an episode that makes DS9 worth watching. My favourite series has always been and will continue to be TNG, but amongst all the others, DS9 is a close second. I like Voyager because of the numerous time/alternate reality based episodes that they had, but I never found any depth in the entire series, the cast never seemed to gel together and grow like the TNG cast, nor did the series have much depth (Seven of Nine being probably the only exception). DS9, though set in a space station and therefore seemingly not so much 'Star Trek' has numerous instances of real depth and frequently explores some very serious themes. If I had been introduced to the series through DS9 instead of TNG, I might very well be saying now that DS9 is my favourite! Anyway, if there is somebody out there who is wondering if DS9 is worth watching, if you are going to watch only one episode to decide if you want to invest yourself in this world, THIS IS THE EPISODE to watch!

DS9's Inner Light,

TNG has the Inner Light and this is clearly DS9's equal. Great story that does not show the ending. Powerful and Emotional, a drama story done Star Trek style. Excellent!!!
While I am a TOS and TNG fan I have to say I am enjoying watching DS9 and this is far and away the best episode of season one. I have heard it is also one of the best of the series as well.

Quite Suprised by this episode,
This review is from: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
To start this I had read the reviews and this episode sounded like others in TNG and such but I found out it was quite different from any other episode i've seen so far. So many emotional turning points until the very end of the episode. Seems this is going to be one of the best episodes of the whole series.

Duet is a Gem of Season 1 - Great Trek!,

To know what Star Trek is all about is simply to watch this episode. There is some great TV here that I loved watching. It is the depth added to Science Fiction that has always made Star Trek great. Gene would have loved this episode! Cons: No Space Battles, phasers, or everyone in peril. 4.8/5 stars. ~Keep On Trekkin'

The best of the Star Trek series,

Deep Space Nine takes the prize when it comes to good story telling and better quality actors. Much less of the technobabble that Voyager was known for. DS9 excels at creating multiple story lines, some that end each week, some that span over many weeks, keeping the viewing experience exciting. It is much better when viewed on DVD or on Prime than on TV, so you can watch more often and keep up with the story lines. They probably did more in character development than the other shows as well. Instead of running to a new star system each week, you get to experience the opposite, a stable (somewhat) environment of a space station visited by all the different species. This means less filler characters, more story lines, interesting plot twists, and a complete plot that starts in the first episode, but doesn't finish until the last. And of course, there is Quark, who is enough reason by himself to watch the entire series.

I didn't watch DS9 too much when it was on TV, though I was/am a huge TNG fan. I'm rectifying that now that these are free on Amazon Prime and this and the first episode are really incredible. The character development for Kira was fabulous and the actor who played the Cardassian did a wonderful job.

When at their best Star Trek and science fiction examine questions of humanity. The pilot episode "The Emissary", and this one "Duet" are two such gems! Each season of Deep Space 9 has episodes with great storytelling. There are many episodes with great storytelling through the seven years of this series! But you have to be willing to wade through as the story lines get better more often. Each character has transformative journeys through the seven years of the series! Good finds.

Easily one of the best episodes of the entire series. You don't be able to predict the climax, but when it hits you, you can't help to be emotionally moved that may even cause you to reflect on human nature as a whole. This wouldn't have been possible, though without the excellent acting by guest star Harris Yulin as the Cardasian. I have played the climactic scene multiple times and have remained speechless...well other than this review :-pAs much as I would agree that this episode would be a good introduction to DS9, yet I think it's more impactful when you know the background of the Bajoran-Cardassian conflict (which mirrors Germany, the Holocaust, and the Jews). This would make the episode that more real as the viewer is more immersed in DS9's universe. Furthermore, you'd better recognize how much of a character development this episode was for Kira.

Brings meaning to the show,

This is easily one of the best episodes of DS9. It gives you a deeper insight into the Cardassian-Bajoran relationship, without which the Cardassians would just be seen as brutal killers and the Bajorans as blameless victims. Add some pretty fine acting for a TV show and you have a great episode.

Superb acting, very emotional, parallels with our own history,

I remember watching this when I was 13, and was completely blown away by it! This is around the time when I was emotionally maturing, and was studying world war 2 in school. The similarities where apparent to me even then. I won't go into too much detail as to not ruin it for those who have not seen it. But like a previous reviewer said: " if you only watch one ds9 episode, this is it!" I would argue that even non trek fans would enjoy watching this episode.Very well acted, highly emotional, poignant and relevant. I can't wait for the dominion story arc to begin! Oh joy! lol |
